Free programming idea for CBC. "Talking to Canadians" follows US ambassador Pete Hoekstra as he travels across Canada, meeting and insulting Canadians from Peggy's Cove to Whitehorse. Highlights include the cast of Shoresy in Sudbury having to be restrained by the RCMP from beating him to a pulp.

I don’t imagine that a degree in Mathematics is a sure-fire route to riches, but those cerebral weirdos write the schematics of everything from the numbers they imagine in their heads.
President Trump is banning students majoring in degrees that don’t make enough money from taking out college loans. Degrees for social work, art, religious studies, teaching aides, and music will be hit the hardest. trib.al/aaAEu6v
I’m hosting CBC’s Front Burner for the next two weeks. They were nice enough to start my fill-in stint on a topic I’m rather familiar with: Alberta separatism. My chat with the great @rwarnica.bsky.social: podcasts.apple.com/ca/podcast/f...
Where's the fight to keep Canada together?

A crucial thing about Bluesky was that the scientific community migrated to it en masse as soon as it opened its doors. There are left wing scientists and right wing scientists and scientists who try to pay no attention to politics. What they all have in common is that they are rationalists.
Bluesky's new CEO Toni Schneider on the platform's reputation for being a liberal bubble: "Yes, we definitely want that to change. It is already changing. It certainly wasn’t designed to attract one specific group of people."

It's not a liberal bubble -- it's just the place where everyone who wasn't morally okay with being at the Nazi club settled.

I haven't heard Donald Trump bring up the lack of water pressure in showers lately. Did that get solved or something?

Counterpoint: what if betrayal of country is not betrayal of one's own values or principles? See, for example, the White Rose, Germany. Or can an organization like the CIA not contemplate or comprehend that possibility?

Good question. The answer is that not paying Trump buys you a whole lot of trouble. The money you spend on legal representation suddenly goes through the roof. You have to hire lawyers to fend off federal prosecutors. Why do you think the big law firms were the first to fold?
"I will never understand why these huge corporations refuse to acknowledge objective reality: paying Trump doesn’t buy you anything. All it does is teach him that you’re willing to pay, and next time, he’ll get you to pay more."
There is a full blown propaganda war underway, not only in the US but throughout the West. I wonder to what extent those on the side of rationalism are losing this war because they can't and won't stoop to propaganda.
It's pretty infuriating that Trump is denying disaster aid to Oregon for political reasons and I have barely heard anything about it, while Biden was falsely accused of doing the exact same thing to North Carolina and millions of people believed that
The problem here is that the MAGA movement sees themselves as a group of committed citizens intent on changing the world, and they have. Entirely for the worse, but they don’t see it that way.

The federal government’s decision to pause the Billy Bishop expansion means that people who often win lost for once — are taking it badly.

I've been in Stratford a couple times now for the World in a Weekend festival and it's such a lovely set-up for kids. Mostly free puppet shows and lots of crafting/play stations set up outdoors on banks of the river. Highly recommend for parents of 3-10! www.springworksfestival.ca/_files/ugd/f...

Please, no spoilers. Also, we've agreed to let Mexico have that honour.
it would be so funny if we exhausted all our weaponry on iran and canada just marched in and took us over
I've noticed a new trick they're trying. I was at a Loblaws store recently where they'd removed country origin labels from signage. Is the broccoli from México or California? No idea. At least the apples had Washington state stickers. But most people probably wouldn't look so closely. #cdnpoli
