As a friend told me, people's fascination with deconstructions, parodies, and meta humor stem from wanting novelty. Audiences these days are getting sick of tropes being played straight so they look for any excuse to see how a story "picks apart" an otherwise common archetype or narrative beat.

I've grown to groan when someone calls something a "deconstruction" because usually it isn't. It's just the first one the viewer paid attention to without scrolling their phone for 2/3rds of the run time so now it's gotta be the exception so they don't have to admit they were wrong about a genre

I don't like it when sex scenes show up where I feel like they don't belong. For the same reason I don't want the Bone Tomahawk vivisection scene in a slice-of-life anime. Everything has a time and place. But Gluck made a movie ABOUT sex, and sexuality! That is THE time and place for a sex scene!

I'm all for corporate bashing, but propping up one studio to put down another isn't the way to do it. Using Forgotten Island to shit on Disney when... Dreamworks is guilty of the same shit, for example.

We need to start being normal about bad movies. Its fine to not like certain movies and explain why you don't like them, but we need to retire this trend of talking as if a few bad films is the death of whatever genre, studio or franchise they're from, bad movies have always been a thing.

In my view, Disney Animation, Pixar, DreamWorks, Illumination, and Sony Animation are no better or worse than each other. They all have their strengths and weaknesses, and how you feel about each of their movies is subjective. Your love for one is no excuse to bash others.

I've been making changes in my personal life that I haven't spoken very publicly on, but one thing I do want to be public is that my close friends call me Bea now. And if any of you want to call me Bea or B, that would make me very happy. <3 But no pressure, I won't be upset if I hear Martin.

I have a friend on Discord who noted how picky I am with pacing. For that, I try to lay off pointing out pacing in my reviews unless it's really bad. If I can't help it, I try to elaborate on how I think the pacing's bad as best I can (e.g., something legitimately drags on too long).

4. I don't think "all art is political", I do however believe all art has a purpose. I believe everything art wise is created with a goal of some form. Whether it's to convey a political or social message, tackle uncomfortable subjects through the safety net of fiction, just to entertain, ect

I love works that try to apply realism, if only for the sake of accuracy or showing evident research, but sometimes it's better to take artistic liberties every now and then. "Close Enough" is one of the few shows I know of that does a great job at being relatable and irreverent at the same time.

1. I think some people have issues with over prioritizing realism. Like fiction is supposed to fantastical, fantasy designs don't need to "make sense" to our world's rules and limitations and it's very restrictive to talk as if they should. They need to make sense to their world, not ours.

I remember this issue being prevalent with Marcie x Bubblgum, pointing to both their exes in Ash and Finn (respectively). Like bros, bisexuals exist, holy shit.

I'm completely indifferent towards TADC but can we PLEASE stop calling everything "bad writing" and never elaborating on HOW it's bad? That's like asking for somebody's opinion on your artwork and all they say is that it "looks weird" without ever explaining how it's weird and how you can improve.
