Jimmy Cricket : truly one of the nicest men in this business. Daft as a brush on stage (and able to be cross generational in his appeal) but so warm and kind and generous and supportive off it. He also has a lovely family of good people. Ah this is so sad. RIP Jimmy.
#SHOWNEWS - 'Maria' at 53Two Simon Stephens premieres his new play 'Maria' at 53Two. In a play about honesty, and humanness, Stephens feels that @53two was the perfect choice for the launch. 2nd-11th September 7.30pm (not 7th & 8th). Also, 6th September 5pm. *LINK IN BIO*
SIMON STEPHENS’ MARIA TO RECEIVE UK PREMIERE AT 53TWO
Manchester writer’s powerful drama about love, isolation and survival comes to 53two from 2–11 September 2026. 53two will present the UK premiere of Maria by acclaimed Manchester playwright Simon Stephens this September, directed by Sadie Mears in her debut production at the venue. Set in the North, in a once-thriving port town now surviving on the scraps of yesterday’s industry, Maria follows a pregnant 18-year-old searching for connection, trust and hope in the digital 21st century. As Maria “ping-pongs” through life the play takes an unflinching look at social neglect and isolation combining youthful resistance with enforced resilience.

But here's the nifty thing. I'm not off to Edinburgh, but I've already seen all of these fine, fine shows in Manchester, mostly courtesy of @xsmalarkey.com, with a bit of help from @alovelytime.bsky.social. Hats off to them!
If I were off to Edinburgh this year I'd be making a bee-line for comedy shows by Elf Lyons, Andrew Doherty, Hannah Platt, Frankie Monroe, Heron Foods (Molly McGuinness and Paul Campbell), Chris Cantrill, Rob Auton, Tom Neenan, Adam Riches...
I maintain that if Burnham made it legal to confiscate phones from people who watch video or listen to music without headphones, then called a snap election, he could actually increase his majority.
Comedian, actor, presenter, podcaster extraordinaire Toby Hadoke delivers his ten favourite classic Doctor Who stories... I love this guy - it’s the meeting of podcasts bromance that no one saw coming! @tobyhadoke.bsky.social podcasts.apple.com/gb/podcast/a...
What a sad day. Raising a glass to that very fine actor Tom Chadbon, who graced every franchise from James Bond to Blake’s 7 to Game of Thrones, and whose brilliant comic turn as Duggan, the out-of-his-depth private detective in the 1979 Doctor Who classic City of Death, is the stuff of TV legend.
Its a @tobyhadoke.bsky.social double bill for me this week A great interview with @sophiealdred.bsky.social on the Ace Odyssey show last night And tonight his words of wisdom about The Day the Earth Caught Fire on @smershpod.com
Really pissed off with my email provider. I hadn’t got a message I was expecting so checked my junk bin. As well as filtering out all the crappy spam/sales pitches, turns out it’s been withholding every single message from all the nice young women who have seen my picture and want to be my friend.
Series 2 of our Ace Odyssey has begun and we’re welcoming TobyHadoke @tobyhadoke.bsky.social aboard the Nosferatu 2.5 and encountering @robinince.bsky.social in the Ffantaface! Dare you enter The Neverwhen? Links in the first reply ⬇️
MEXICAN WAVE! I realise @tobyhadoke.bsky.social has now released his Too Much Information podcasts on all four parts of "The Aztecs", so, in this central American weather, I can start a deep dive into the story on DVD at home, and William Russell reading the book, and Toby's analysis when I'm out.
A new printing of The Quatermass Experiment is now in stock, @tobyhadoke.bsky.social's immersive account of the making of TV's first sci-fi classic, illustrated with rare photographs from the archives of writer Nigel Kneale. Order now from tenacrebooks.co.uk

Ah! It’s been announced. We’re off on a hazardous mission to find The Abominable Snowmen. Hopefully we’ll find it in time otherwise you’ll just be left with a photograph of a Blu-Ray in the snow and a fragment of a box. Documentaries, commentaries… the whole shebang, and I’m on a few of them.
Pleased as punch to have contributed in a very small way to this alongside such luminaries as @barryf48.bsky.social @mrgeetsromo.bsky.social @accordingtojond.bsky.social @tobyhadoke.bsky.social and many more! hammerfilms.com/products/the...
Vladimir McTavish : Scottish comedy legend. Hilarious and unique. Paul Sneddon, the man behind the legend: absolutely lovely bloke. A warm hearted, totally decent fellow. We hadn’t worked together in a while and to think we never will again makes me sad. RIP to a top bloke gone too soon.
Elf Lyons stunning at the ever-brilliant @xsmalarkey.com. Wildly ambitious, moving, hugely vulnerable and, of course, extremely silly and funny. Has to be a must-see show of the Fringe.
Only 20 tickets left for tonight's previews with @freyaparker.bsky.social and Elf Lyons, so please book ahead if you're coming! Very excited for these shows, and for @tobyhadoke.bsky.social of course wegottickets.com/f/17340
