BILLY JOEL: and as they're strapping me into the electric chair, I ask if I can use the piano one last time. I had this melody in my head... <starts playing "New York State of Mind"> GUARD: He wrote it IN THE ROOM. BILLY JOEL: After that, the governor pardoned me. Whole thing took an hour, tops.

what I'm learning from this billy joel documentary is that when you find yourself in a tricky life situation, you can always get yourself back out of it by writing a legendary pop song

This like knocked loose some shit from childhood. The middle kid, not really old enough for much English sat down next to his sobbing older brother in time-out and just helplessly rubbed his back to try to help him calm down. Just pure animal concern/kindness. Fucked me right up.

Today at the beach we saw a lady yell at her kids so loudly and cruelly that I am still thinking about it hours later and will be thinking about it for a long time. I saw a scar being made in front of my eyes and could do nothing about it.

cop: did he send any texts around the time of the crash? cop 2: he sent a post that reads "padding my three track album with 26 skits and interludes" cop: not bad but it ain't going viral cop 2: posting isn't just about going viral cop: (sighs) not this shit again

Imagining the miserable workshop situation I was in once where everyone just wanted to argue about how possible they thought the physics were in a story--no other topic could pull them from practical construction questions long!--and tickling myself with how this story would have gone over there.

“In the Hills, the Cities” a real “this hole was made for me!” short story. Still thinking about it many hours later lololololol

Incredibly weird situation where a very drunk man is trying to get into the hotel room across the hall from us and has kinda passed out in the hallway, occasionally waking up to beat on the door and mutter to himself.

No yeah bro thanks for the tour, it’s a nice place. Must feel good to be done with all the move-in stuff… I guess I’m just *looking around* sorry yeah I’m just trying to figure out where you must keep all your ramekins

The worst time I was robbed the police did not file a report because they assumed I did it myself and was trying to cover up property lost and destroyed for other reasons. So they were helping me NOT file a false report, see? They didn’t even tell me they did this, just took a couple notes and left.

It’s so funny when people are like “sure you’re an abolitionist now but wait until you’re the victim of a property crime.” Buddy, the most useful thing the police have ever done for property crime is put the form you need to submit to your insurance online.

As much as radicals get criticized for being "unrealistic," demanding entire demographics facing literal genocide always maintain mild rhetoric and actions is an absolutely delusional level of conformity to expect. I don't think that gets said enough.
