When I worked at Blizzard I was slowly sliding into debt and when I talked to my manager about it I was pretty much told "oh well". They said something about economizing and I was like "dude, my rent is 70% of my paycheck?!?" Like there's no amount of financial management that solves that.

The median sale price of a home near Irvine, CA is $1.3m. (Source: www.redfin.com/county/332/C...) Mandated RTO policies uproot families that own homes in affordable areas and force them to move to areas where owning a home is not financially possible for the majority of workers in that area.

While I still consider books a great source, dynamic, code-synced interactivity makes complex topics — like my research game engine — far easier to grasp, especially being updated rapidly with code. I welcome comments and if you find it useful to learn/understand or not. flow.kapiengine.com

Public service announcement: I am very open for rational discourse here, but if your responses are largely from an LLM, this is a clear indication to me that you have surrendered your humanity and are incapable of well-reasoned conversation.

My experience with LLM-generated code is that it's always wrong somewhere. When I say that, people tell me that we should have the LLM write tests, but those tests will be wrong here and there as well. I guess we could ask the LLM to write tests for the tests, but how does that recursion stop? 1/2

GPUs are insanely effective parallel processing machines. If it happens you can process your work on GPU, there is probably high confidence attached to the path of thought that it can do it dramatically faster than a CPU. Use it. The worst and most expensive GPU is an idle one.

A Minneapolis pastor:“I said I am not afraid and they pointed a g*n in my face. ICE put handcuffs on my hands and put me in a black SUV. A few moments later they came back and said are you afraid yet?”

That very specific ex-gamedev is wasting so much of his time in a hate crusade against "woke" and "DEI". He was successful and is rich and he shouldn't bother and enjoy life. Why would he put do much effort? Is it a frustration for a decade of failing to be a game dev again while "wokes" succeed?

Today my partner and I cancelled our GDC plans. It wasn’t an easy decision to make, but between reduced air safety, increased border control detainments, and escalating tensions between the US and Canada, travelling to the US for a games conference (especially from Canada) doesn't seem worth it.

Trump threatens Canada again, confirms tariffs are blackmail: "Canada, we have a tremendous deficit with Canada. We're not gonna have that anymore. As you probably know, I say you can always become a state. If you're a state, we won't have a deficit, we won't have to tariff you."

Trump is threatening to arrest local and state officials, especially in Blue states, if they don’t participate in his ethnic cleansing campaign through mass deportations. Today it’ll be about “immigration” , tomorrow it’ll be about how they vote.

If you are in those areas and you aren't masking you have NO IDEA what you're breathing in - Altadena in particular was full of very, very old homes that predated current regulations. Asbestos, lead paint, etc - you don't want any of it in your lungs. Mask up.

Shockingly few people are talking about the toxic air and water in LA. It’s eerily reminiscent of early days of the pandemic when we were assured we didn’t have to mask Listen to air quality experts. The same folk educating about IAQ & COVID are providing life saving info now. And wear a mask.
