It has been a really rough day and I appreciate the outpouring of support from everyone. The amazing @stevesaylor.net once said something like "every company should have an Elisabeth," and now is your company's chance! I'm on the job market after layoffs and looking for my next role.

Wouldn't it be great if small game developers on here used alt text so I could actually share their work? Imagine even basic accessibility without a Disabled person having to put extra energy into requesting it. What a great world that would be. (I woke up salty. 🧂)

Huge fan of seeing people dunk on a new feature that would give specifically me, better accessibility to play my favorite game longer. But yeah, auto navigation is totally just an excuse to simplify the game into playing itself. 🙄 Everyone’s needs are different. Learn to look past your own nose.

This is what happens when you have lack of accessibility. I tried 40 times to climb this area in Shinobi: Art of Vengeance trying to outrun fire. My brain dysfunction just isn’t fast enough to keep up. Now I might never finish the game and I’m close to the end. Just let me skip it before I get sick

Happy 36th anniversary of the passing of the Americans with Disabilities Act. To this day, disabled people still can't get married, and our rights are actively being challenged over and over. True disability inclusion happens when we're equals to our able-bodied peers.

Let's explore in terms of this industry – why was it that only THREE (including me) people wrote about the Microsoft layoffs and how they impacted accessibility? We should be consistently thought of alongside everyone else, and just be equals with everyone else. THAT'S true disability inclusion.

Reminds me of one of the dumber fights I had to have in my game career. The game opened with a voiced cutscene that tied into the story and reason why the characters were doing the things. It wasn't subtitled. I had to explain very slowly to people paid much more than me that captions matter here

I've read so many "hot takes" about accessibility in my ten-year career; this, though, takes the absolute cake. No, accessibility is not responsible for closing studios, wasting millions, or causing layoffs. Don't be like this guy.

A screenshot of a LinkedIn post by Richard Boisvert a Principal Technical Cinematic Artist who said: It's an unbelievable thing to see that menu narration is enabled by default in the new Halo game, a feature that caters to blind people. What Halo Studios / 343 is essentially saying is this:

"We need this option on by default because a blind person is incapable of navigating the menu to find and enable it. However, once enabled, they can play the game just fine."

This is the end-state of the inclusive and accessibility mafia. They cater so hard to the edge-case, that they actually make unreasonable defaults to the majority. Why don't they also enable the colorblind filters too? What's the difference?

It doesn't matter that you can "just turn it off" or that it's "no big deal". The fact that they went with that as the DEFAULT is insanity. It shows how warped the frame-of-mind and worldview is of these people. This shows, by proxy, the beurocratic bloat of AAA.

These are the kinds of decisions and infrastructures that kill companies, waste millions, cause layoffs, and I am sick of seeing it. We are not in a gaming crash because of "greed", we are in a crash because of stupid shit like this.

RE: Ableism Can't wait for the blocks to flow in from this one... Seeing a lot of 'iT's JuSt A gAmE' takes on my recent posts about game devs being ableist Yes. It's just a game. There's literally MILLIONS of others I'm an actual disabled human with MANY disabling disabilities Think about that.

Accessibility is an important thing to consider in a game's development. You can end up excluding an entire player base because of one in game event or gameplay mechanic. They teach the importance of that in any good college these days and any good dev should know that in my opinion.
