In the decades since the end of the Cold War, US policy has fluctuated between disengagement, distrust, and - at the start - the aspiration that Russia could be encouraged to align with the US. Now the White House aspiration is that the US could align with Russia.
It's important to recognise is that this *isn't* about the US getting "back" to business with Russia, because there's never been much US-Russia business of any kind beyond arms control. What the Trump admin is pushing for is an unprecedented alignment of the US with Russia.

Drones just kept on arriving in Kyiv all afternoon, and the air raid warning is still active even though it's currently clear over the city. Air defence has shot down a lot - here's one example. But there has been an "arrival" at a school's stadium in the Sviatoshynskyi district.
Trump's losing it. Look at his eyes, the anger, the fear that his messy deal has been rumbled? His words slaughtering Zelenskyy will only unite Ukraine's public like never before. By "make a deal" he means surrender so he can line his family's pockets yet further.
