In September 1948, Alderman Allan Lamport commissioned a series of photographs along Yonge Street documenting existing conditions as the city considered widening the street, providing a fascinating snapshot of the streetscape pre-subway. Read more about it here: https://ow.ly/sQuq50ZOLy5

The Ford government says bike lanes in Toronto don't belong on main streets. But experts (along with documents from the City of Toronto) say that a cycling network purely on secondary routes doesn't work in the city. Here's why:

You'd think a story about public consultation on a subway station exit would be dullsville. But no, friends, no. This is @alisonmotluk.bsky.social. 🔥
@alisonmotluk.bsky.social spent a year helping the TTC rethink a subway exit. That was seven years ago. What the hyper-local story of an unfinished TTC exit tells us about the purpose of public consultation. thelocal.to/second-exit-...

I’m officially running City Council in Ward 14, Toronto-Danforth. I believe this ward is ready for practical leadership, better planning, stronger local services, and a councillor who gets things Healthy communities. Solid urbanism. Experience that delivers. Vote Susan Chapelle ✅ October 26.
Yes, we need density. And we need a plan. Homes with the services that make a neighbourhood work: healthcare, mental health care, childcare, schools, parks, employment land, local businesses and reliable infrastructure. Density should build communities, not just units. Ward 14 can grow better.
This is BAD NEWS for public safety & mobility in Ontario. Make no mistake what this ruling means—the lower court decision established that ripping out protected bike-lanes WILL cost lives & that was unconstitutional. This Appeal decision says Doug Ford is constitutionally allowed to ENDANGER LIVES.

I grew up riding bikes with my family in downtown Toronto. The Danforth bike lane is how my 86 year old dad gets to his favourite coffee shop. Every single day. Regardless of weather. Thank you @jenniferkeesmaat.bsky.social Doug Ford wants my dad to drive a car instead. Idiot.

Car-free streets are not synonymous with culturally rich streets. Removing cars creates possibility, but it does not automatically create a vibrant place. A truly vibrant public space is not only defined by what is absent; it is defined by what is present—who and what is able to flourish there.
Great piece by Cllr Matlow that lays out the impossibility of 10 million passengers flying through Billy Bishop without a huge expansion of the airport footprint. Also rightly says huge public costs - both public funds & degrading the public waterfront - would not be offset by any public benefit.
Please read my latest in today’s Toronto Star about why we must prepare for what comes next for Billy Bishop Airport and our city’s waterfront. www.thestar.com/opinion/cont...
