To Daryl's larger point, CR wants to appeal a certain type of person. I wouldn't say those people are "casuals" or need to be gated out of fandom (as some have interpreted this post to be about) but I do think it is "people with large followings that we can get to associate with the anime brand."

But now I understand, for I have seen the target Crunchyroll demographic userbase. This is who the site is designed for.
