I often recommend Terry Pratchett's Tiffany Aching novels to kids in the 6-12 range &/or their families--they're fun to read aloud. Tiffany is a witch, & one key skill for a witch is First Sight, which means perceiving what is there, & not pretending you don't know about it. I think about this a lot

In most Arab countries, Mother’s Day is celebrated on March 21. But since Oct. 7, 2023, Mother’s Day in Gaza has been stripped of its meaning. How can these children celebrate when there are no mothers to embrace them, hold them, receive their gifts, or smile at their small gestures of love?

Really glad this is coming out. Unfortunately seems to have whiffs of Jimmy Savile to it. There were people who knew, who saw what Chavez was doing and tried to shut anyone else up from revealing the truth.

Just devastating. Absolutely devastating. And historical investigations matter, because what's hidden today -- or in plain sight but willfully ignored -- will be reckoned with in the future.

One, movements don't need monsters. They succeed in spite of them because the principles are just and good. Two, no one should have to "wait their turn" for justice. Justice for everyone. Now. Today. Three, the New York Times is still a compromised outlet that capitulates to fascists.

The NYT presents this as an either-or situation and it is not. We can protect women and girls from predators and have justice for the common worker. We can protect women and girls while providing the civil rights to ALL. Rights that many shed blood and lost their lives for us to have.
