The Jan. 6 attackers’ victory looks short lived. They got an anti-Constitution leader and their criminal convictions undone (though some got arrested for new offenses). But Team Trump’s failing at authoritarian consolidation. Still, they won. Some got jobs in a new secret police. It’s awfully dark.
A paramilitary group plotted to overthrow the Constitution then conducted a violent attack on America. They were convicted in court of seditious conspiracy, and jailed. Then the leader they aimed to illegally install got power and let them out, their records wiped clean. The Jan. 6 attackers won.

I seem unusual among UK trans journalists in that I have a regular publication. That's because I write about tech, if I wrote about politics or trans stuff I would be excluded like all the other trans voices. A whole generation of very bright talent, extinguished. Editors should be ashamed.
Mallory Moore@sexabolition.blog · 5h agoThis is what happened 5-10 years ago in the UK. Journalistic seriousness was stripped from trans journalists and columnists despite trans topics dominating headlines.
Trans film and arts critics have also done okay and for the most part trans columnists in apolitical "lifestyle" content seem to have been less affected. It's capital N News coverage and Political Comment journalism where trans people were purged most rigourously.

I need people to understand that for the last half decade that there’s been an ecosystem of trans folks in sports media who have worked unpaid to serve as experts for context, sources and educators on what it’s like for trans athletes, in hopes of potential bylines and contacts. That’s dried up.

It’s true, in the past I would have had multiple editors in my inbox asking me to write about the Cunningham stuff. I haven’t gotten a single assignment request. Trans writers used to be tokenized to write about these things but now that the topic is “mainstream,” those bylines go elsewhere.

And I worry that there are a lot of people on the left who don't care about this problem because they hate AI. But the truth is that as this technology continues to get jammed into everything from customer service to banking to fast food orders, having built-in fair right bias is bad.
Basically the worst case scenario for AI use. All knowledge is now gated by a bigoted machine controlled by wealthy bigoted elites.

RFK Jr's CDC reportedly scaled back foodborne disease tracking last year, removing cyclospora from mandatory reporting. The CDC also lost roughly 3,000 employees since 2025. Now a cyclosporiasis outbreak has killed 2 and sickened thousands across 45 states. "Make America Healthy Again."
That they have the gall to complain about burrito prices while putting immigrants into concentration camps is infuriating. Hating immigration should get you put on a no-burrito list.

This is worth amplifying (also this podcast is rad), that Roman slavery was, y'know, slavery. In fact, all slavery is horrifying, but the broader 'Mediterranean' slavery tradition (which is also, by the by, the ancestor of Atlantic slavery) is one of the *more extreme* such traditions.
