@ryanwithboulder.bsky.social please oppose sending this to the ballot. There are other tools to solve the ailments of downtown that don’t involve locking critical tax dollars away from BVSD, OSMP, and other critical projects for the next 30 years. This is a total giveaway to commercial landlords.

#Boulder City Council is divided over whether to put a downtown development authority on the November ballot. Supporters say it could revitalize downtown. Critics warn it would divert future tax revenue from city services and other public agencies for decades. boulderreportinglab.org/2026/08/02/b...

Anybody know of a (preferably #selfhost ) open source alternative to Discord? Really sick of their ads and scummy engagement bait when all I want to do is get on a conference call with my friends for gaming and DnD

It’d sick if @npmx.dev had a section for similar/alternative packages. Sometimes I just want to find a replacement (preferably drop-in replacement) for an abandoned dep. Or am considering a dep but unaware of newer/better alternatives.

OPINION — “The pilot is not balance. It is a policy choice made on behalf of one group’s preferences, dressed in the language of conservation, by an institution that has not meaningfully updated its philosophy in decades,” writes Rex Madden. #Boulder boulderreportinglab.org/2026/05/24/r...

Opinion | Rex Madden: Boulder County's trail-use pilot unfairly targets mountain bikers

The county’s proposed alternating trail-use pilot is being justified by preference-based conflicts, not documented safety risks or ecological evidence.

Anybody have an email provider they love? I’ve got a couple domains I’d like to set up a handful of inboxes under. I’ve been looking at Proton, Neo Mail, and Fastmail. Any others I should check out?

Did GitHub break stacked PRs? I swear I used to be able to be able to have PRs chained to the branch they were based on. And after merging the upstream GitHub would cleanly rebase my downstream to main. Now I just merge conflicts.

github bot that autocloses every issue after 5 minutes by saying "the purpose of a system is what it does"

I read a hot take on the orange site that “Java is great until the complexity merchants set up shop in your codebase” and it’s been living rent free in my mind ever since

mature things tend to get pressured into being less weird over time, so if you're starting from scratch your advantage is that you can be very weird if you don't start weird you're probably trying to compete inside the local maximum of something more boring than you could be
