It is unacceptable that an ICE contractor shot a protester in Aurora last night. This incident demands a full accounting. It is also another reminder that ICE needs an overhaul and a change in leadership from the top down. We cannot allow this violence to become the new normal.

This is why House Democrats need to use their subpoena powers to release personnel files for ICE and other DHS agencies next year. We need people combing through these names and doing the background checks the GOP refused to do.

Now @apnews.com has a deeply reported story confirming the recently-hired ICE officer who shot a man in Maine had serious mental health issues and a long history of violence against women. This comes after ICE slashed hiring standards and rushed some into the field before background checks cleared.

The son of the man shot and killed by ICE: I am Ronaldo Salgado, the oldest son of Lorenzo Salgado Araujo. He should've been picking up the last of his guys before heading to finish up construction. Unbeknownst to all of us, my dad had been shot inside his van by ICE agents in unmarked cars.
