I've been reading a book on color's cultural relevance through different time periods and I finally got to the chapter on white. I'm not gonna lie, it was kind of a hard read, but had this one line: "White is defined by what it excludes." And if that isn't the realest shit I've read in a while.

aside from work stuff, i mostly use social media to look at funny videos of dogs and subreddits about nail polish. you would not BELIEVE what the lacqueristas are getting up to over there, the anti-ICE nail art is flooding the feed.

New year, new craft. I bought a kit for a crochet blanket years ago thinking I’d like to teach myself something new. I have lugged it around forever. Thought today might be a good day to have something to focus on and distract me from the world outside.

Setting aside the glaring racism and ageism, what I see here is fear. Fear because "elderly white hippies" are (or at least could be) a major threat to fascism. They have more time and money to burn than most other groups. And they have less to lose in going out and protesting tyrants.

This is my congressman. Called his office. Was nice, but got hung up on once I (politely) pointed out he is evil and heading to hell.

I love my wonky stuff. It's how I know I made it. My first attempt at anything isn't going to be perfect, but I can proudly keep it as a reminder that I learned how to do a thing with my own hands. You took a noodle of sheep hair and turned it into a wearable garment! That's freaking amazing!

My #withoutNSF story is very personal. NSF gave me a landing place after being denied tenure for being “a strong woman wearing a short skirt”. My work as a DBI PO kept me in science. And we supported the forefront of tech that now seems common, like the first sequencers for evolutionary biologists.
