I'm setting myself a challenge for my next TTRPG character played at a table with trusted friends. I'm going to ask them to give me a character to play. Traits, goals, some basic beliefs and positions, and build from there. If you do (or have done) this, let me know how it went for you.

When we joke now about a thing becoming your whole personality once you find it, I tell you, this is the real thing.

I've got something in my brain about #ttrpg players and parasocial relationships, but I'm not in the right headspace. We've all witnessed the rise in a parasocial relationship with D&D5e alone, buoyed by Critical Role and a few key others. But that pales in the shadow of Vampire: The Masquerade.

Understand, American Liberals will never choose to run what a leftist would call a "better" candidate. They don't care about the results. It doesn't matter if they win so long as they can still make money as the "loyal opposition." They don't suffer like the electorate does.

Leftists think Protest Votes will shake up politics. If they withhold votes for flawed candidates, the DNC will offer better candidates. But they never think about the other side. By showing up to vote in numbers too big to ignore, they could shift demographics and become a bloc worth catering to.

I read about Amnesty International complaining that if they actually defended trans people, they would be sued into oblivion by JKR, and I think they missed the fact that they have now destroyed themselves: Nobody is gonna give time or money to an org that folds to pressure on human rights.

Start the countdown for 5e influencers losing their minds that Dark Sun has 1. slavery, 2. environmental destruction, and 3. cannibal halflings in it. Because today, half of them are just innocently saying, "Ooh, this looks cool, grimdark D&D!"

One of the faces of maturity is to change your reactivity. I've gone from a fight timer of, "I can do this all day," to an initial reaction of, "OH WHAT SO YOU wait I don't care about this, block and done."

Also, just spent an hour or so explaining to my eldest granddaughter the premise of MotU and why cartoons in the 80s were mostly 30 min ads directly marketing to children. The phrase, "It was Reagan's fault," was used.

So I watched the Masters of the Universe movie tonight. (shrug) Eh. It was fun enough. It could have been worse. Now, let me be clear. I know it could have been worse because I was there for the last time they tried. I was in the target market. I was the audience, in the theater. It was worse.

5e players, let me ask you a question: do you want to play a game where your characters need to take a nap every time they fight some goblins? Where you're haggling over the price of horses so you can cross the plains to a dusty ruin? Counting coins to see if you can buy that shiny sword? Or...

So why should you play Daggerheart rather than Dungeons & Dragons? I'm going to go through the core book and highlight what I consider to be pros that DH has over 5e. I may call out cons if I think they're significant, but this is mostly a list to help people break away from WotC.
