It would be easy to call this the “new normal“ but that’s incorrect. In actual fact, “normal” is going to keep getting worse and worse and worse. Just how bad it will get depends entirely on how fast & far we go on real, legitimate (not performative) #ClimateAction. We know how. It’s about will.

Bordeaux, France, has now recorded more days above 40°C in 2026 alone than during the entire 105-year period from 1920 (when observations began) to 2025. This is deeply shocking.

If you're a trans person in England (or the parent or guardian of a young trans person in England) I strongly recommend doing this immediately. The new data principles for the shared NHS record in England - based on the transphobic and psuedoscientific Sullivan Review - are designed to out us.

You can opt-out of having a shared NHS record. I opted out over a decade ago now and it has never affected any of the medical care I receive except having to give new doctors a list of my medicine because they can't pull it off my GPs system. www.nhs.uk/using-the-nh...

say what you will about AI, always-on voice recording and auto dictation has been a game changer for my workflows. Save post and close app. Yeah Footlong meatball sub on white. No veggies. Don't toast it. Ranch and barbecue sauce. Yeah, ranch and bargecue sauce. More. More. Little more please

One thing I'd add is that when someone says "I've gone beyond left and right", in most cases it means they've drifted to the far right. Russell Brand is one of many examples.

Wise words from @doctorow.pluralistic.net "'Post-political' movements are made up of people who don't know what politics are. A 'centrist' is ultimately a rightist, because the foundation of rightism is the supremacy of property." pluralistic.net/2026/07/08/w...

Two members of Starmer’s cabinet were notable for their extreme cruelty and bigotry towards minorities: Mahmood and Phillipson. Both have kept their jobs under Burnham. So much for a new broom.

Posting this on behalf of a fellow researcher: Hello please reply to Transhate@proton.me with the most grim and egregious stuff Rowling has done targeting people.

BOOKMARK THIS THREAD this is the advice people like Cats Protection will give you if your cat goes missing. it's why i didn't allow comments yesterday. we knew the best advice already. it gives you the best chance of success. Labour's Stella Creasy has launched an amendment to introduce a £100,000 cap on political donations. Now the Q is whether Andy Burnham will back it Olly Buston of Clean Up Westminster: “If your MP doesn’t back Stella’s amendment then they are basically saying they think politics should be for sale"

1000 evaluators given identical resumes & told candidate used AI. Only difference on resumes was candidate’s name: Emily vs James. Study found women using AI are evaluated as less competent than men who use AI...To evaluators, women’s AI use signaled inability, while men’s AI use signaled initiative

Women’s use of AI is perceived as a sign of incompetence, while men’s use of AI is seen as an indication of initiative. 🤦🏻‍♂️

I am very glad to see how widely covered the insanity at Exeter is, but please I beg everyone, understand this is happening EVERYWHERE in UK universities. If people care about anything valuable that this sector does or contributes too, they need to get loud, now.

Something deeply troubling & shocking is happening at Exeter University*, where a mass cull of staff is planned, even though it's in surplus. No good justifications given. @jamesgdyke.info provides the details: www.technosphere.earth/the-bonfire-... *Disclosure: I have a Visiting Fellowship here. +🧵

++BREAKING++ Leading climate scientists in the UK have written to senior editors in broadcast media - and OFCOM and IPSO: "To express our concern about recent media coverage of extreme weather, climate change and net-zero and to urge you…to inform public audiences of the scientific links"

Letter in today's Times by climate scientist Sir Brian Hoskins: "The discourse around net-zero is increasingly decoupled from…science and our changing weather. "Net-zero is not an arbitrary slogan, rather it is dictated by the laws of physics."
