Right now, someone with an AI-slop-filled timeline who went to Detroit once for a conference (or, family trip to Sleeping Bear Dunes) is composing the single dumbest essay ever written on Facebook. And they think it's fucking genius.

One of the things that would really help a lot of people in a lot of ways is being taught to identify scams in schools. It wouldn't just stop fraud, which is already completely out of control, but destroy the business models of a lot of awful people.

Happy Tuesday! Today marks the third week-a-versary of The Dead Milkmen being out, and as you may know, the band played a trilogy of shows in California this weekend. I was unable to be out there, but several friends were excited to send me photos and text me about their experiences (not to mention a vast internet of strangers sharing a deep well of content of variable quality).

One Week of ‘The Dead Milkmen:’ Views and Reviews
Because Friday's 'This Counts as Research' subject was a heavy one, I decided to bulldoze this pile of links to today in honor of the week-aversary of The Dead Milkmen. The response has been overwhelming in the best way, with friends new and old sharing photos of their copies, freshly arrived in the mail. The crazy part is that every person who has, happens to be incredibly cool, smart, and good-looking!

All of us have to suffer because nobody came to his dumbass military parade last year and also we’re a plurality Black city that votes like 95% Not Republican so it’s just gonna be more National Guard and parades and he’ll never get what he wants so he’ll never stop punishing us. Statehood please.
i'm glad for residents who can leave town this weekend and i truly don't mean to be sanctimonious because i think everyone should be able to leave town for this bullshit, but a lot of washingtonians are POOR. gas is mad expensive rn, holiday weekend planes/trains too. this is a hostage situation
Comments like this make my day/week/year.
I'm just about halfway through, and I absolutely love it. I knew a lot about the scene when they began, but I was too young at the time to really connect the dots. It is a great story well told. You should be proud of what you accomplished.

For much of 2025, I was deep in the throes of archival research and interviews with/about the Dead Milkmen for my (aptly titled) book The Dead Milkmen, which came out THIS WEEK on J-Card Press (order here). With any book project, especially on such an eclectic and long-running band, there were many stories and artifacts that, for various reasons, slid into the margins or I needed to cut for space.
