A Food and Water Watch analysis linked livestock density to beach advisories, but the Iowa DNR disputes the connection https://www.thegazette.com/news/environment/most-2026-iowa-beach-advisories-in-counties-with-high-livestock-concentration/article_1fed0301-efad-460f-a751-edfcfe6bcb48.html
futurism.com/artificial-i... Fast food chains have mostly gone all in on AI for operational streamlining. But most have failed. Chilis took a different tack, using tech investment to revamp ageing IT and taking robots that weren't improving the customer experience OUT of restaurants
Business World Stunned That a Restaurant Chain Is Doing Well Without Mindlessly Embracing AI
The casual diner chain Chili's is making headlines for being the one restaurant that didn't mindlessly start deploying AI.

Aaaaaaaand AP just called the Kansas U.S. Senate Democratic primary for Rev. Adam Hamilton, so now there is, indeed, six. Not surprising (he was breaking fundraising records), but notable all the same. (And possibly one more pastor nominee by night’s end — we’ll see.)
"Pastors in Name Only" "Wicked Witch of Woke" “I've never seen anyone commit so much blasphemy against the word of God." As pastors become Democratic nominees — at least 5 so far, and likely one more tonight — their Republican opponents are attacking their faith. religionnews.com/2026/08/04/p...
Fun fact: I just published the full story on this topic mere minutes ago. By my count, at least 12 pastors, seminarians & former clergy have launched campaigns for federal office this year, and 5 are already nominees. In response, the GOP is attacking their faith. religionnews.com/2026/08/04/p...
'They're not real pastors': As clergy run as Democrats, Republicans question their faith
(RNS) — 'It's a sign that they are really scared they're gonna lose this seat,' the Rev. Sarah Trone Garriott, a Lutheran pastor running for Congress in Iowa, said. She is part of a wave of religious ...

Highly recommend listening to @jackjenkins.me in conversation with Dr. Amanda Henderson:
Miller is a piece of shit. But be cautious about calling family photos of nude toddlers "CSAM." I've written about lives ruined over allegations that turned out to be harmless photos of kids taking a bath or running naked through the house. Moreno is already calling for prosecutions, here.
Max Miller’s lawyer admits to accidentally releasing ‘private images’ of daughter
Lawyers for ex-wife Emily Moreno said possible “Child Sexual Abuse Material” was included in a trove of documents the Ohio lawmaker publicly posted.

2017: Paul Pate refused to give sensitive voter data to the federal government. 2026: Paul Pate willingly handed over your personal information. What changed?
I knew Measles cases were through the roof, but this is crazy! #GenAI
Hey man, maybe just make the sandwiches and take a pic of them.
BUT! If BigLaw's credulous partners are suckered into firing juniors and replacing them with AI that bills $1,200/h for defective contracts, then everyone who needs a contract is on the same side as the contract lawyers - united in opposition to bosses: www.loweringthebar.net/2026/06/its-... 48/
It Was Only a Matter of Time: *Both* Sides’ Lawyers Sanctioned for Using AI
None of the four lawyers involved will be seeing the inside of this courtroom again for a while.

Finally, there's an *economic* coin-trick: "AI will destroy jobs." Sure, yes, AI is destroying jobs. But there's a vast difference between "You got fired because an AI can do your job" and "You got fired because your boss was convinced that the AI can do your job, even though it *cannot*." 45/
*I was trying to find an actual primary source for the antimicrobial status of vulture poop that is invoked by pop science on the internet thanks to a FB argument. It didn't exist.*** As far as I can tell, it still doesn't exist. So much internet pop sci is just a game of telephone.
What pisses me off the most about the Hank Green thing is that he had all that goodwill, audience, and reputation and just flushed it away. When all he needed to do was hire a couple of weird nerds like me who *want* to sit and research all day. Instead he chose to make the world a little worse.
Sometimes I like to see if AI chatbots actually know anything. So I ask them how many members of the patriots from ten years ago are still active and not one of them has been able to list joe thuney. Anyways, i'm sure hank green is a smart dude
Hey, everyone. Guess who fucked up again! That's right: CVS Specialty Pharmacy, your friendly nationwide #BCBS partner. So when BCBS stopped covering Stelara, they didn't notify the doctor. The pharmacy just said, "We've switched you to Yesintek."
On hold (again) with the specialty pharmacy after being told that the biosimilar doesn't require a prior authorization. Shockingly, the new provider at the doctor's office actually did her part the day after she got the request. CVS Specialty fucked up.
How many umbrellas do you think are being sent to the US Atty's office in DC today? 🤣

Breaking News: Two deaths in Michigan have been linked to cyclospora. Both people who had the parasite also had underlying health issues.
I saw yesterday that some right-wing outlets were running stories about me, which I’m used to. But this time I’m going to say something about it, because these were framed to imply that I was aligned with their own transphobia. ⬇️
MN Lynx coach Cheryl Reeves today, while her team won the game
the short version is that I hope @hankgreen.bsky.social gets better, and also that I still don’t believe he fully comprehends how much danger he is still in nor how much damage he has done/has the potential to do
can we sometimes be asking "what qualifies this guy to speak on this subject?" or has that ship sailed
I was so frustrated when he mentioned using AI to code his website. Like there are people who do that. You could hire a person. It would be good for the economy and everything.
The amount of creative, brilliant, and inspired people that Hank Green is a privileged message or phone call away from only make it more of a crime that he's been slopping out his material.

"Fully offsetting the App Store fee to maintain your earnings (30% of the higher iOS sale price) requires an increase of 1 / (1-30%), which is 42.86%." 🥴
If you subscribe to anything via an iOS app, you've added a middleman who takes a cut, but who won't fix any problems that arise. Always subscribe in your browser, but this is doubly true for Patreon where you're trying to support an individual. Two middlemen is not better than one!
Apple charges people ~20% more than the Patreon list price and they keep the difference for themselves. They also hold the proceeds of iOS app sales for 75 days, making it impossible for creators to accurately predict earnings. They basically inserted themselves in order to rip *more* people off
