I think this shows polling is untrustworthy. I believe that the case for Stevens being “more electable” is … polling. This suggests to me that maybe we should back the candidate with a vision and fresh ideas who can win without corporate money against a PAC gorged candidate.

Was this wrong? “But that marginal lead was a far cry from what El-Sayed and his allies had expected. Public polling in the campaign’s closing stretch showed El-Sayed ahead of Stevens by double digits. And his campaign projected confidence they would deliver a decisive win”

Hey guys, Perez Hilton performed self-harm and may have attempted a suicide on TikTok and screenshots are flying around, so if you are sensitive, go put "Perez Hilton" in your mutes right now.

'You'll choke too' - an aerial embroidery landscape inspired by all the wildfires happening right now... I'm upset every time I smell smoke outside and somehow we have people starting them maliciously too! But we all breathe the same air so they'll choke too (1/2 - see thread for close-ups)

An embroidery hoop containing a sewn landscape from above. It shows a forest on the right, a line of fire and charred ground with smoke on the left. The smoke is felted wool.

What if instead of starting substacks in twenty-fucking-twenty-six people learned to give one iota of a fuck about whether they want to associate themselves with nazis.

I am at a fancy Japanese-inspired dinner my husband’s restaurant is hosting, and I just ate a *checks notes* wild ramp sausage Scotch egg so good, I literally hugged the chef and said, “one day, I will die. and that will be okay, because I will have lived a life in which I ate that Scotch egg”

the most insane, perfect fucking Scotch egg I’ve ever put in my mouth

I’ve seen a lot of my colleagues’ interactions with Claude working on research problems & it would be easier for me to accept it as a serious scientific tool if it didn’t end every single response with the LLM equivalent of “you want fries with that?” — constantly trying to goad you into asking more

I used genAI once back in 2024. Constant Contact was testing out help with writing emails. Enter some words and it’d come up with a paragraph. I entered: “women’s fellowship; coffee meet up; all invited; once a month.” What I got back: “Hey ladies, it’s that time of month again…” Never again.

I have the same approach to LLMs/genAI that many people have to alcohol, gambling, or any other potential addiction they fear falling into, which is that I simply never picked it up. I have never looked at a ChatGPT interface. I have never visited the website. website? app? no idea. I never looked
