This includes people who came here legally on a visa, applied for another form of status, and are just waiting for the US government to decide their case. People who haven’t done a single thing wrong.
NEW: The Trump administration has begun arresting foreign citizens with expired visas as they travel through airports, according to documents obtained by The Times and interviews with lawyers — a tactic that opens up a vast new pool of people for deportation. www.nytimes.com/2026/07/28/u...
Israel is giving Trump's former campaign manager millions of dollars to fill the internet with pro-Israel articles written by AI, not so that anyone will actually read them, but so that *LLMs will train on them* & regurgitate their perspective. This is the future of the information environment.

Yesterday afternoon 14:09 in Lacanau Océan in France. A pale red sun through the smoke tinged everything in Mars style orange. Welcome in the climate emergency! Despite all denial of the fossil fuel lobby, it’s scientific fact: CO2 emissions heat up Earth & make fires worse. 🔥🔥🔥

Is Trump engaging today in the "statecraft" Mohamed El-Erian fantasizes about?
Trump did his usual "magic" with USMNT, but it actually is possible for a soccer fan to root for both the USWNT and USMNT. As far as results go, will the continued power of the pay-to-play model and the spread of top level women's soccer globally affects the results of the USWNT?

Terrible news about my former colleague Gordon Wood.
I just received the terribly distressing news that Gordon Wood was hit by a car and killed yesterday. We were together with other Founding era scholars at the 2nd Judicial Circuit conference last week at Lake George, and he was as usual in fine fettle and as always enjoyable to talk to.

The same bad actors that have opposed climate action for decades have now sought to weaponize the modest progress toward decarbonization we've made in spite of them. My co-author @doctorvive.bsky.social & I recently weighed in on this in the @thebulletin.org: thebulletin.org/2026/05/sorr...

Just emailed by Congressional Rep for all the good that will do. So no extra fees on massive SUVS, pick up trucks, RVs, etcs. and no fees on the damage I.C.E. vehicles cause to the environment and to public health.
US House GOP & Dems have compromised on 5-year transportation bill. Draft bill includes a $150 annual fee on electric vehicles ($35 for plugins). No fee on gas-powered cars. Though not huge, this is another disincentive to shift to EVs in a country where the EV market share is low & declining.
