Arctic fjords are hotspots for carbon sequestration affected by global warming. In our last article, published in #PLoSBiology, we show that fungi living in Svalbard sediments efficiently assimilate labile DOM and retain it as microbial biomass, rather than allowing it to be rapidly respired.
