They're certainly not the best sketches I've seen from the 13th century, but they're still a delight to come across.

Years ago I was at the space museum in White Sands, NM, gazing up at a Saturn V rocket engine. Another visitor next to me turned out to be an engineer from JPL. He explained they were studying old rockets to try to reverse engineer how they actually worked. Because the blueprints had been lost.
It's hard to argue that LLMs aren't genuinely impressive for coding, but imo it's a devil's bargain — seductive short term advantages at the cost of hollowing out critical thinking and problem solving

I can't think of a single artistic profession that I would "recommend" anyone do. Be a painter? A poet? An actor? People choose to do these things because it's their passion and we only live once.
hearing "don't get into this industry" is disheartening for many, but please consider the youths who only get fired up when they are acting in opposition to an authority figure. someone has to tell them it's impossible or else they will never build up enough spite to prove the man wrong
Given all the press/discourse/etc around AI, I'm surprised how little of it engages with the question of why the output itself is so repellent to many (most?) people. Nothing I've read has really improved upon, "why should I bother to look at something nobody bothered to make?"
If I were European I would simply solve the heatwave using good old American moxie. But I will not use said moxie to solve the USA's intractable social problems because America is a real country and I am very busy.

I agree with this. A third party is aesthetically more appealing but a structural near-impossibility in the U.S. I really believe leftists need to bite the bullet and commit to hollowing out the democratic establishment and replacing the guts with something better
