Well, actually, kinda, yeah, close to what happened. It's not for nothing that Jack Dorsey, who started the place and was on its board, basically ran away when the trans folks and furries scared off all the crypto bros he assumed would be the natural demographic here (they went to Nostr instead).

Bluesky often seems like a project run by tech people who place great value on its architectural differences from Twitter, which nobody cares about, while not understanding how they walked ass-backwards into having a userbase (whomst they fear and despise)

I've read 3/4 of these. Of course TLL is the best book *ever*, Leckie's is a Top 50 for me, and VanderMeer is overrated (but still quite readable!).

New stack to take with me during this hectic month of changes. The newest Harrison to continue my obsession, and my 3 big "blindspot series" from @annleckie.com @adapalmer.bsky.social & @jeffvandermeer.bsky.social Ready for exciting space operas and funky weird stuff. 🙏 #booksky

A stack of four books

So, remember how I spilled the hot tea on my MacBook Pro? I got a new logic board installed. But then one of the ports wasn't working. So they replaced that port today. But the port still doesn't work. The problem is the connector on the logic board. So we're ordering a new logic board. Argh.

This is Iker. He was found by a Portuguese rescue earlier this year and during his intake photos he appeared very nonchalant about finding a forever home. This strategy worked and he was adopted almost immediately. 14/10 (IG: patudosvagos)

a puppy lays on a patch of grass against a white wall with his front paws crossed. the puppy is mostly white with pink toe beans. the right side of his face and both ears are black, as is his nose. the fur along his left lip is also black, so it appears as if he is smirking in a super nonchalant way. no wonder a family couldn't resist adopting him.

I think of some of the musicians and actors I have loved my whole life, and it comforts me to know we still have their works. I can listen to Glen Hansard, and that's a gift. It breaks my heart to think that others I've loved haven't left that kind of legacy. And I'll leave apps that won't run. 🤷

Just in case you still use any Basecamp products, DHH is crashing out about his AI product gently pointing out that it’s bad for him to have extermination fantasies about the Roma people.

DHH tweet saying “This is why we need competition and open weights in Al. Imagine a world where only Anthropic sat as the moral arbiter of acceptable speech. Fucking ridiculous. (Grok of course did it no problem, same too with Kimi K).” when presented with his blog post using a slur about the Roma people.

People claim to be doing progressive work and then do ad reads for the platform that literally keeps Canada’s bargain bin Elon Musk loaded. I get most Americans don’t think about Canada hardly ever but could you please, this once, think about the impact your actions have outside your borders?

Very cool that Shopify’s CEO thinks the poor should have far less of a vote than the rich. Still worth that ad read money, folks?

Shopify CEO Tobi Lutke says “good system.” In response to the following proposal:

“Interesting... what about weighted voting proportional to the level of income tax you pay? (no income tax paid - O vote, $1-100k - 1 vote, $100-200k 2 votes and so on... cap it at 5 votes for $500k+. For those that constantly complain about the wealthy not paying tax/fair share they'd have nothing to worry about right? Why not reward representation of taxation and build a democracy around those that foot the bill?”
