Well, actually, kinda, yeah, close to what happened. It's not for nothing that Jack Dorsey, who started the place and was on its board, basically ran away when the trans folks and furries scared off all the crypto bros he assumed would be the natural demographic here (they went to Nostr instead).
Bluesky often seems like a project run by tech people who place great value on its architectural differences from Twitter, which nobody cares about, while not understanding how they walked ass-backwards into having a userbase (whomst they fear and despise)
I've read 3/4 of these. Of course TLL is the best book *ever*, Leckie's is a Top 50 for me, and VanderMeer is overrated (but still quite readable!).
New stack to take with me during this hectic month of changes. The newest Harrison to continue my obsession, and my 3 big "blindspot series" from @annleckie.com @adapalmer.bsky.social & @jeffvandermeer.bsky.social Ready for exciting space operas and funky weird stuff. 🙏 #booksky
I'm so pleased that Lutke's insanity is being paraded to a larger audience.
Latest at the Globe, on how the politics and policies of a country changes when voters feel they have no stake in economic growth. I like the headline: Tobi Lutke’s idea that pensioners be excluded from voting is offensive. The concern behind it isn’t

Away for a computer-free weekend, I picked up this banger at the used book store.
Last weekend in Gros Morne. We really do live in the most beautiful country in the world.
obsessed with the font on IKEA's clam chowder packaging. this is what's in the freezer on the Nostromo
Andrew Coyne has said some crazy shit, but this one is a banger, and I'm glad to see Tobi getting called out. Gift link!
One person, one vote is basic democratic principle. We should try it some time

now we can just let the classicists argue amongst themselves
As a Classicist, I’ve Defended Emily Wilson’s Odyssey Translation. I Can’t Defend Her Review of Nolan’s Movie.
Emily Wilson used baffling arguments to flay Christopher Nolan’s adaptation of Homer’s poem.

My brother in christ, three seasons of prestige TV would cover the front half of TLL. I cannot fathom an adaptation that could capture the scope of Terra Ignota!
All this makes me want to see @adapalmer.bsky.social Terra Ignota made into a three-season prestige TV series
So, remember how I spilled the hot tea on my MacBook Pro? I got a new logic board installed. But then one of the ports wasn't working. So they replaced that port today. But the port still doesn't work. The problem is the connector on the logic board. So we're ordering a new logic board. Argh.
I've read it four times and I'm still processing it
Thanks to my @algebraist.bsky.social ,this evening we finished @adapalmer.bsky.social's incredible Terra Ignota series. Astonishingly good and clever in so many ways, it's going to take me quite a while to process

This is Iker. He was found by a Portuguese rescue earlier this year and during his intake photos he appeared very nonchalant about finding a forever home. This strategy worked and he was adopted almost immediately. 14/10 (IG: patudosvagos)
I think of some of the musicians and actors I have loved my whole life, and it comforts me to know we still have their works. I can listen to Glen Hansard, and that's a gift. It breaks my heart to think that others I've loved haven't left that kind of legacy. And I'll leave apps that won't run. 🤷
My "this is not a show trial" press conference is raising a lot of questions already answered by my "this is not a show trial" press conference
Kinda crazy to have the leader of your country discussing your best friend's trial But at the very least, glad that the case is getting more and more attention

It's a bit orthogonal to the original point, but I also think about this in relation to Canadian data center construction, which is actually genuinely necessary if we want data sovereignty or sovereign cloud because most existing infrastructure is in the United States under hyperscalers.
datacenters are not “one evil guy’s big evil computer for him to do evil things with”
More people need to know that Canada's biggest tech firm is run a fucking right wing kook whose brain is simmering in the X cesspool.
Shopify CEO appears to endorse giving more votes to wealthy Canadians | CBC News
The billionaire CEO of one of Canada's largest companies has come under fire for seeming to endorse stripping voting rights from some and giving more votes to the ultra wealthy. Shopify CEO Tobi Lütke replied positively to a post on X suggesting a system of "weighted voting proportional to the amount of income tax you pay," from no votes for people who don't pay income tax to five votes for anyone paying $500,000 or more.

People claim to be doing progressive work and then do ad reads for the platform that literally keeps Canada’s bargain bin Elon Musk loaded. I get most Americans don’t think about Canada hardly ever but could you please, this once, think about the impact your actions have outside your borders?
Very cool that Shopify’s CEO thinks the poor should have far less of a vote than the rich. Still worth that ad read money, folks?

Honestly looking forward to shit hitting the fan so I can take my loses sooner so I have time to recover afterwards in time to retire? But no worries for these asshole companies about to torch the economy: the government will bail them out.
