Michael Flynn got paid by the Russian government to do anti-American propaganda, got paid by the Turkish government to conspire to break US laws, and now got paid by the US government for helping cover up a hostile anti-American foreign intelligence operation, ensuring perpetrators got away with it.

🧵🧵🧵 A scandal that hardly anyone knows happened is Trump giving traitor Michael Flynn $1.25 million in your tax money. Flynn, Trump’s 1st national security adviser, pleaded guilty twice to lying to the FBI but was pardoned by Trump. He sued, alleging "weaponization," and DOJ paid him in March. 1/4🧵

I fear we might see a new alignment between a radical right death cult and a rural revivalist "simplicity" drive, which views collapse and a return to "organic" communities as a solution to decadent urbanism. A century ago this convergence led to a very bad place. www.monbiot.com/2023/10/04/t...

The Cruel Fantasies of Well-Fed People

Good morning Bluesky ☀️ My grandad told me he saw the Titanic - from the outset he warned all the people that the ship would sink, but nobody listened to him. He knew he was right and didn't give up. He warned them again & again, until eventually they kicked him out of the cinema.

The Titanic sinking under a moonlit sky.

Like many Europeans, I felt deep unease, not only at the deaths in Ceuta, but at Europe’s dehumanised response. By embracing this dystopian narrative, they turned desperate people into invaders, abandoned European solidarity and helped create the image Europe’s worst enemies want READ below

The ultimate disinterested rich guy take on politics, it’s just like sports! Racism, homophobia and transphobia for some and believing in a just and equal society for others and if we can all just support our teams politely it’ll be just fine okay?

time. Policy is very loaded, but if you're super into sports, you're not going to be into all sports. I'm super into the San Francisco Giants so that's what I want to follow. I don't need to follow all of sports, and that's fine. It can be like that with all topics. It just needs to be civil and positive and we need to have the tools that if it goes off the rails, people can regulate it and can have a good experience instead of it just devolving into a shouting match.

Calling it a bubble is to miss the point. Go to where a community suits you, and where you suit the community. Where you can get what you want. I don’t want fights any more. I want facts, freedom and fun - peppered with interesting information. Is that a bubble? Maybe, but a good one. 4/4

The new CEO of Bluesky wants to change Bluesky from being a leftist bubble. The thing is, there’s nothing wrong with being a leftist bubble: the idea that everything has to be all-encompassing and suitable for everyone is a trap. 🧵 1/4

What I love about Bluesky is what I loved about old Twitter: if I want to find out about something (however recondite) there will be someone here (often with a PhD in it) and the time and patience to share their knowledge. /1

Fascinating experiment: current AI systems lack creativity to reliably pursue research arxiv.org/abs/2607.27191 - poor judgment about the bar for publishable research - uncreative responses in research design - ineffective backtracking from dead ends - poor resource awareness - instruction drift

Forecasts of explosive AI progress hinge on AI agents automating AI research. But evidence on whether agents can carry out open-ended AI research is thin. Current evaluations either test agents on nar...

Imagine a bank closing the accounts of the sitting president and the reason listed is money laundering. Just imagine the appropriate level of political scandal that something like that should cause. Now imagine the leading newspaper of the country, @nytimes.com, not writing a word about it

NEW: Capital One closed hundreds of Trump accounts for money laundering. We wouldn’t have known if Trump hadn’t sued. Now he’s got tax immunity. My latest: www.muellershewrote.com/p/new-capita...

Back when I had Twitter I used to offer free headshots for low-income authors, not sure I have much reach here but the offer is still there. London or Birmingham (although I’m in Glasgow and Edinburgh at the end of Aug and can fit in a session. Will have lights so can be indoors).
