When you’re chronically ill, learning to rest is critical It’s also hard Our society rewards productivity We’re taught that rest is weakness. That we should play through the pain Rest is a strength It can help you maintain your baseline If all you did today was rest, be proud of yourself

A Professor can be hounded to death by the media for alleged plagiarism but tech companies can plagiarise on a worldwide scale and they’re left alone, celebrated for their “genius”…

If you’re living with tricky mental health, chronic illness, not good thought pathways caused by others’ behaviour, a trickily wired brain, you’re worried about climate change or you’re just feeling shite today, then hi, me too. This photo’s for your brain-a miniature posy from my garden in a thimble:

A post of tiny flowers from my garden in a thimble

For those who have forgotten the past 40 years: Tax cuts for the rich ...don’t trickle down Boosting military spending ...doesn’t bring peace Slashing regulations ...doesn’t create jobs Folks, we’ve seen this all before.

Aldi should call David Seymour’s bluff. “Yup ok we’ll open in New Zealand as long as you match German supermarket regulation standards: no Sunday trading and mandatory plastic/glass container deposit schemes”

I notice details because I'm autistic. I care with my whole chest because I'm autistic. I build rituals, collect joy, and remember the tiny things because I'm autistic. Some of my favorite parts of me stopped looking like deficits the moment I stopped measuring them against someone else's brain.

Whenever a company announces they're going to start using AI, I notice two things. First, it's never about how it can actually improve the product, just how they can do it more cheaply/with less people. Second, they never announce an intent to pass any of those expected savings on to the consumer.

Bluesky isn't a bubble or an echo chamber, it's a garden. You plant some seeds and pull some weeds, you tend to it with care, and you make it into a space that pleases you when you come to sit in it a while. Other people can plant and tend to their own gardens, if they like. This garden is yours.

A colorful riot of tulips and other flowers.

This government doesn’t push things through ‘under urgency’. It pushes things through without warning, without scrutiny, without justification. It’s not about urgency. It’s about saying a hearty fuck you to everyone else.

All the political news this week has been absolute garbage. It feels overwhelming and that’s on purpose. So it’s more important to seek out the people and causes that give you hope. And give them your time, money and attention. It can be better. We just have to work together.

Sometimes when we feel exhausted, things feel grim & everything feels hopeless, the best thing we can do is do some small act. - Exhausted? Rest, really rest (not just doomscrolling)……rest is resistance against it all. - also make sure you’re fed and hydrated…:you need to keep your energy up

An important, underrated component to emergency preparedness is getting all your mates to vote for a government that's not shit. This directly improves personal and communal resilience at a fundamental level. In lieu of a government that's not shit, have a good torch. Maybe a pitchfork or two.
