The inability to parse the difference between assistive tech for disabilities and not using stolen slop to generate ugly memes every time one has the impulse to type words into a keyboard is what's getting us here. ... what was that about AI decreasing our ability to think critically again?

Nobody wants predictive data models to stop working for the people in medicine. Or translating ancient Pompeii texts. Or the other ways we were already using it. We want it to stop replacing workers, killing the environment, and stealing from artists. Hope that clarifies.

36 years ago today, the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) was signed into law. This came after decades of advocacy from the Disability Rights movement and changed our country and our City for the better.

Blue Bottle Games, as a policy, does not use generative AI. It's something we've discussed as a team, weighing the pros and cons, and ultimately, we decided it was not for us. Recently, while chatting with a colleague, she mentioned it was useful hearing our reasoning. So: Sharing time! 1/12

Did you know if you have a following of any size, some percentage of them rely on alt text because of vision, neurological, or crappy internet connection issues? Adding alt text also makes it more likely your image gets reposted. It is also a great and thoughtful kindness in a world that needs it 💜

After BTS in Brussels, I went to Ghent, where the #GentJazz festival was happening! I hadn’t known that until I got to Belgium, but happily I got to see Lakecia Benjamin, Stanley Clarke, & the Terence Blanchard/Ravi Coltrane tribute to Miles Davis & John Coltrane. A great music (& food) week. 3/3

Most of the reason I went to Belgium last week was because my friend had an extra #BTS #Arirang concert ticket. My intro to k-pop was spectacular. I have absolutely become a fan. And people are so generous with their maker skills. I got handed posters, keychains, cards with lyrics. It was great! 2/3

I went to Belgium last week & had a great time. I spent an afternoon at the Museum of Musical Instruments. I was there ~12 years ago & regretted not getting the audio tour (I was on a shoestring budget). Now the audio (& some video) are included! 1/3

A trumpet/trombone like instrument with 7 horns. Composers wrote music for this! But apparently the fingering was really difficult & it didn’t catch on. Trombonists preferred their slide. White harpsichord with two keyboards and a scene painted on the topOf course there was a theremin in the collection, on the basement level

people are always amused/confused about how romance authors & readers keep doing things like organizing 1.5 million whistles or raising $1 million... but we read & write books where when everything is bleak, you pull together with your people & hope your way to victory. we rewired our brains.

I now fervently believe this. Relatedly, I think celebrating good news and embracing joy are equally radical. You have to remember what you’re fighting for. We cannot sustainably organize around sorrow.

BREAKING: I'm introducing my FAST Repairs for Wheelchairs Act. This legislation would streamline wheelchair repair services by removing prior authorization requirements from Medicare Advantage plans. Our wheelchair users should not have to wait months for minor repairs.
