It has taken Donald Trump's America to make Europeans realize that it is not just scary to look after itself without the USA--but that it also has strategic benefits. As those benefits become clearer Europe will strengthen and the USA will have weakened itself.

Preventing some Iranian villagers from getting drinking water does nothing to prevent the IRGC from firing missiles and drones. Water is a red line. I know those of you who hate the US military and US foreign policy won’t care about the difference, but it’s significant, with very bad implications.

More war crimes: In its fourth strike on water infrastructure, the US has destroyed two water tanks in Sirik, Iran, completely cutting off water distribution in all villages of the Bemani district and the city of Kohstak, the Hormozgan Water and Sanitation Authority says.

One of the reasons why the ongoing meltdown about Zohran asking people to set their A/C to 78 bothers me is that it seems to be a symptom of post-COVID unwillingness for individuals to do anything for the common good, and if we don’t have that we’re in a very bad place as a society.

I interviewed a former prosecutor yesterday who said this one thing that I cannot stop thinking about : “I think the most radical thing I learned from becoming a prosecutor is how much violence women face in this country and how little people care.”

I think the reason the Reflecting Pool is getting so much reaction is because it's a tangible metaphor for all the failures of this regime. It's a physical manifestation of toxicity, vanity, cost, error, and assigning blame.

Nobody is vandalizing the Reflecting Pool, and Trump knows it. This is a visible example of his corruption--a no-bid contract to some crony followed by sky-high cost overruns, and shoddy construction to boot. Classic Trump: I didn't fuck up, it was my enemies.

Just a friendly reminder. If the US had taken only a small fraction of the money and military equipment it has squandered fighting and losing to Iran, and instead helped Ukraine, the Middle East would be more stable and Russia would be facing defeat.

When we win, the first bill I’m filing is a comprehensive anti-corruption package: Overturn Citizens United Ban corporate PACs and super PACs Ban members of Congress from trading stocks Once we defeat the most corrupt politician in America, we can defeat this entire corrupt system.

If you're in publishing and don't subscribe to The Bottom Line, you're missing out. The latest issue's diplomatic takedown of the Authors Guild's deceptive conclusions from their latest "research" is yet another example of why @janefriedman.com is one of the most important voices in the industry.

First, this study has no historical baseline; it can’t claim book buying is down. The headline takeaway is that only 25 percent of print and ebooks read in the last month were bought new or obtained through a paid subscription. But does that represent a change in consumer behavior? We don’t know because this study is a snapshot only, not a comparison with prior studies. To be fair, it is well known that digital borrowing has surged at libraries, especially since the pandemic. In particular, it was revealed in 2019 that library ebook revenue for Macmillan increased by 800 percent over five years. But if readers have truly abandoned buying for borrowing, total book purchasing, especially for fiction, would be falling. In fact, the opposite is happening. The fiction market has seen some of its strongest growth since the pandemic.

I guess the majority of farmers have proven that the best way to get ongoing perpetual government welfare during the Trump years is to reliably continue to vote Republican even when their policies repeatedly make you insolvent.

NBA is rigged! when Spurs had 29 point lead the game should have been immediately stopped and Spurs declared winner. Instead officials decides to play "4th quarter?" and Knicks "somehow" score enough baskets to win. Fraud!
