First light from the Graphics Gremlin HDMI LC prototype.

Well this is a surprise! The GEMS Module Test Program for the Mega Drive/Genesis was dumped and released today by CartridgeCulture. It features music composed by David Javelosa, who uploaded footage of this demo back in 2019. It features music composed with the GEMS sound program.

Back in July, I reverse-engineered the Sony DTL-H201A Graphics Artist board. Now, PicoGraph has a new non-video-adapter mode based on that work: an emulated PSX GPU on the RP2350B that works with the original tools. PicoGraph is now running on the PicoMEM2 board, with some testing in the wild.

A release of PicoGraph for the PicoMEM2 is now available with support for emulating MDA, Hercules Graphics, EGA, VGA, and the Cirrus Logic CL-GD5429, along with the Sony DTL-H201A Graphics Artist PSX development board. github.com/ianhan/picog...

The core I’ve been working on for the Graphics Gremlin HDMI now supports the following: - Full VGA feature set (includes CGA and EGA) - VESA support for 8-bpp bank-switched modes: 320x200, 320x240, 320x400, 400x300, 640x400, 640x480, 800x600 - MDA as a configurable secondary adapter on 4-bpp HDMI

Because the Graphics Gremlin HDMI’s digital video output is hardwired 2 bits per channel, digital output of the color modes is off the table - but it’s still sufficient for simultaneous MDA. The MCGA+ core is multiple cards in one just like the quirkiest early boards. Mah Jongg VGA and FastDoom MDA

My MCGA+ core for the Graphics Gremlin HDMI may as well have the kitchen sink because in addition to the MCGA modes, it has enough of the VGA for modes 12h, “X” and “Y” as well as an isolated MDA on the hardwired 2 bits per channel HDMI. Releasing soon.

Windows 3.1 is snappy with the MCGA+ core but there’s something wrong with the palette so I’m debugging that this morning. The attribute address and internal palette registers of the attribute controller are present and working in test bench, but not on the hardware.

Turns out DisplayLink supports run length encoding, and now, so do I. This is EGA from a Pi Pico 2 on the ISA bus, using DisplayLink over USB 1.1 as the output device.
