You can't both advocate for unionization and then act like a good indie boss is all you need for things to be fine, come the fuck on, be serious. Small companies famously play fast and loose with labor law or just don't have employees, meaning workers have way fewer rights and you're back to faith

Every time I see someone oversimplify things as Indie Good AAA Bad I wish people remembered that big studios typically behave a lot more like ordinary workplaces, for better and worse. E.g. no shade on Strange Scaffold, but a recent post said "everyone is hourly". Do you REALIZE what that means?

I'm gonna be so real with you: we needed to unionize about AI three years ago. But shaming companies worked, right? Individually refusing it worked, right? Posting on Twitter worked, right?

Note that the workers who made Beast Breaker ARE getting rev-share on sales of the game on Steam, even though the studio shut down. Why? Because we had a union, and we negotiated for it.

Game workers do not receive any residuals/royalties on shipped titles and shipping bonuses are increasingly rare. There's also no guarantee that your name will even be in the credits if you leave before ship, and studios will use this to keep you compliant. All of this can and should change.

This Chet Faliszek guy who keeps concern trolling about the union's "messaging" is a CEO and an employer btw. He's doing the thing where he pretends to speak for "game developers" as a whole as if the difference between bosses and workers doesn't matter, but it's 2026 nobody buys this shit anymore
