You could probably 'democratise creative production' by just funding the arts for working and poor folk who make art already. That doesnt fit into the mental equation here because what they mostly mean is give middle class white collar folk the ability to produce slop at will to play at creativity.

I've talked about the Sameer Project before—an excellent life-saving on-the-ground initiative in Gaza. Since April 2024, they've distributed nearly a quarter of a million meals alone (plus water, medical care, and shelter). But funding has dropped so much that they'll have to shut down without help.

I think one of the most frustrating things for me as a indie writer is that magazines consider my 9 potential reader self-published story in the category as represented writers who previously sold their story to a big magazine as basically the same thing (a reprint). Every time Eggers comes up I think about a Twitter poster who was losing her mind because her and her friends (who to my knowledge weren't very notable filmmakers) didn't get 90 millions to make a movie and Robert Eggers did, which to me is very funny. I can't imagine getting that mad about Eggers.

I don’t know about the others, but Wes Moore’s people told me on the record he isn’t a member and only gave a talk there a decade ago to promote a book. Dialog leaked two lists. If distinctions matter, the one that’s widely circulating also includes event speakers who didn’t join the club.
