NEW: Data shows that as of June 15, fully 30% of all people arrested by ICE and sent to detention had NO CRIMINAL RECORD. 11,763 people in detention as of last Sunday had no criminal record and were arrested inside the country by ICE -- an increase of 4,000 people in two weeks!

Chart showing "Percent of People In ICE Detention With No Criminal Record, among those arrested by ICE inside the country and sent to detention"

The chart goes back to May 2019. From May 2019 through spring 2020, when COVID hits, the percentage hovers between 9% and 11%. It then drops to around 5% during COVID, which continues to be the broad baseline throughout most of Biden's term, occasionally jumping higher for a few weeks/months, but often returning to the 5-6% baseline. Then after Trump is elected, it jumps straight to 18% for a month, and rises to 23% as of June 1, then to 30% as of June 15.

As of June 1, nearly 25% of the people arrested by ICE in the interior and sent to detention had NO CRIMINAL RECORD. Data from the last six years, including 1.5 years of Trump's first term, reveals how this is completely unprecedented. It also helps explain the growing backlash.

"I'm happy to report I'm just fine. I lost a button. But I'm gonna sleep in my bed tonight, safe, with my family... At that elevator, I was separated from someone named Edgardo... Edgardo is in ICE detention and he's not going to sleep in his bed tonight."

ICE just arrested Brad Lander, the NYC Comptroller and one of the leading candidates for Mayor, without grounds. He was conducting routine immigration court work, escorting individuals from hearings. He asked ICE for their warrant - well within his legal rights. This is political intimidation.

Whoa! NYC mayoral candidate and current city Comptroller Brad Lander seemingly arrested at the NYC immigration court while attending to escort someone attending their hearing.

I think Cuomo’s ad blitz and the nyc area elite media’s meltdown the past few days over Zohran’s surge has blunted a lot of his momentum and allowed cuomo to find his footing again unfortunately . Will have to see if its enough on eday. Still think the results will be close

"An overwhelming majority of powerful media editors and executives experienced MeToo as an existential threat to their careers" is really a skeleton key for the past half decade of punditry. They really want to be able to sexually harass their underlings without consequence. It's all gender.

The Times saying last year they'd no longer endorse candidates in local elections, then immediately being like "oh but not THAT guy" 10 months later because the candidate wants free buses gives away the whole game. "Objectivity" means you break your own rules to punch left as much as you want.

NYT Editorial board effectively endorses Andrew Cuomo today in the most weaselly possible way. “Don’t rank Mamdani, and it will probably be either him or Cuomo, sooo…”
