I worked for New York’s largest medical center at the start of the pandemic. There were morgue trucks on the streets. They set up emergency medical tents in Central Park. Healthcare worker colleagues died. It is horrific that RFK Jr is on national TV lying that ICUs were empty.

it's also fair to say nolan movies DO tend to be sexist + vapid but also exciting + fun to watch, this is also true of transformers or the mcu or harry potter nolan has pretentions of artistic intent but is still working in broad popular media, and very successfully but sometimes to his detriment

I love making fun of Christopher Nolan on the other hand and this is because I love his movies. They’re silly as shit sprawling epics that make no sense and look amazing. What’s not to love!? Pure popcorn magic

I'm waiting until after I've seen the film to read her critique, but a good reminder that good criticism is rarely where you agree with the critic as much as you understand the framework the critique is coming from and it's coherent and fun to read.

I've often said film critics should give out awards for film criticism, just like actors give out awards for acting, and directors give out awards for directing. Emily Wilson has my vote. Hot damn. Absolutely vicious and extremely pointed. (And it's a film I really LIKE, for crying out loud.)

FWIW, Meta was fully aware of how these glasses would primarily be used. The glasses were designed to erase consent, and that is why they exist. Anything that they do that suggests they want to ameliorate this use is an attempt to win the PR battle and manipulate public opinion.
