Yeah. If you're a professional services firm who people hire for your judgment and you demonstrate you think your judgment is no better than a consumer AI chatbot, you have nothing at all to offer. Same goes for law firms.

It's one thing to outsource thought leadership go consultants. But *if* they in turn outsource *their* thought leadership go GenAI, why not go straight to the source and cut out the middle man. www.ft.com/content/7e14...

Once again thinking about how the Something Awful traditional games subforum was like an incubator for a bunch of RPG designers you probably have heard of at some point. Sandy Pug, Weird Age Games, Liberi Gothica Games, you have Minaerva McJanda, Julian Kay, Jim McGarva, etc, what has r/rpg done?

A lot of people are talking about the subreddit's asinine rules against "self-promotion" (which can include "simply talking about a game in any context") but I will also say, personally, that I have never seen any RPG-related reddit post that made me go "oh wow, they're cooking over there"

I've found it extremely difficult to do much reading these past 8 months or so — my last job really did a number on my brain*. But I picked up a couple of battered secondhand Conan collections, and fuck yeah that's the stuff.

Dave's hand holds up four collections of Conan short stories. The only visible cover features a Frazetta painting of Conan wrapping his thighs around the throat of a ravening ape wearing a red cloak. "Know, oh prince, that between the years when the oceans drank Atlantis and the gleaming cities, and the years of the rise of the Sons of Aryas, there was an Age undreamed of, when shining kingdoms lay spread across the world like blue mantles beneath the stars – Nemedia, Ophir, Brythunia, Hyperborea, Zamora with its dark-haired women and towers of spider-haunted mystery, Zingara with its chivalry, Koth that bordered on the pastoral lands of Shem, Stygia with its shadow-guarded tombs, Hyrkania whose riders wore steel and silk and gold. But the proudest kingdom of the world was Aquilonia, reigning supreme in the dreaming west. Hither came Conan, the Cimmerian, black-haired, sullen-eyed, sword in hand, a thief, a reaver, a slayer, with gigantic melancholies and gigantic mirth, to tread the jeweled thrones of the Earth under his sandaled feet.""Becoming fed up with the City of Thieves (and vice versa) Conan wanders westward to the capital of Zamora, Shadizar the Wicked. Here, he hopes, the pickings will be richer. For a time he is, indeed, more successful in his thievery than he had been in Aren-jun although the women of Shadizar quickly relieve him of his gains in return for initiating him into the arts of love. Rumors of treasure send him to the nearby ruins of ancient Larsha, just ahead of the squad of soldiers sent to arrest him."

So the Clacton by-election is going to be a run-off between a clown solely interested in media attention via cheap stunts who plays a cartoon villain for social media idiots without the slightest interest in representing Clacton or doing the work of a parliamentarian... and Count Binface?

Survived the first month of my job, celebrating by drinking a beer then going home and not leaving the house all weekend.* Pictured: celebratory beer, views from my office (not from today). (*Mostly doing washing and catching up on anime)
