I just saw someone admonishing someone trans to shut up about trans rights because there are concentration camps in the US, and you know who I see overwhelmingly and disproportionately on the front lines standing up against concentration camps? Trans people.

If you want to look at the opinion data to say Talarico had to abandon his previous positions, had to go on fox news saying he 'missed the mark' with some of his previous statements, that's fine – but be honest about it. Medical care and sports are not the same thing.

You can pretend that you're pro-choice and have a principled stand against the state invading clinics and hospitals to dictate what doctors and patients can and cannot do. But somehow it doesn't extend to trans youth because.... trans are icky? That's principled?

This lack of challenge from the mainstream left makes it a lot harder to organise opposition to anti trans policy

A pattern here is anti trans changes made under a labour government are assumed to be "reasonable and moderate" by people who would oppose them if a right wing government was doing them. This is worse for trans people because cis people just don't believe us when we talk about what is happening.

A WHOLE LOT of trans people are citing to the last decade of UK politics as a reason they think anti-trans Dems winning is worse FOR THEM than anti-trans Repubs. And a whole lot of US liberals aren't engaging with that example at all while pontificating about why trans people are wrong and stupid.

You can see this in the current discourse, where many cis people are actively dismissing the possibility of a democrat government making decisions that make life a lot harder for trans people. Those same people will probably continue to deny it even when it's happening.

I think he spends so much time on Twitter that he thinks far right views on social issues are more “center of the country” when “live and let live” is maybe the core tenet of the center of country. Lots of people have their biases and bigotries but they invariably have bigger things to worry about.

I think he believes that the republican position on most social issues is closer to the ‘center’ of the country than the Dem staffers who argue for civil rights, as evidenced by his constant calls for candidates who run against trans people in sports

Trans people tried this in Ohio and Amy Acton didn’t show up and her goons threatened the progressive and Pride caucuses while also shutting trans people out in the meetings her campaign did have (that she didn’t even show up to). If Talarico ever wants to talk I’d be more than glad to.

Everything about Talarico is just making me feel like I'm in a Groundhog day loop, particularly the responses from folks furious that other people might be turned off by his stances on civil rights.
