We're in the era of incompetence & cybercrimes headlined as "unprecedented model capabilities gone rogue." So OpenAI & Anthropic are trying to one up each other with such incompetence because the "press release as a service" performing media & clueless politicians parrot pre IPO CEO talking points.

Just think of all the pedagogical innovations and research on best practices for teaching over the decades that have gotten zero support and funding for implementation, but AI has no proven pedagogical value and is literally sucking up all the funding available in higher ed. These are facts.

I just remembered how, when my grad department brought in DEI consultants because Things Were Bad in the department, one of the consultants said they were "trying out they/them pronouns" and went to misgender a non-binary PhD student who actually uses they/them.

Book proposal revisions are done; sample chapter should be wrapped up soon. Introduction for edited collection is coming along nicely. All of this happening while I'm waiting for notes on an article and book chapter.

Got a new work laptop to mark 4 years at my current institution. MacBook Air, 13-inch, M5, 24 GB of memory. This screen is so nice and fancy, wow 😯

BTW, if like me, you're a junior tenure-track scholar working on your first book proposal, this book has been super helpful for me (recommended to me by a kind editor who read my rough first proposal lmao). My library had a digital copy, so it might be worth checking at your own institution!
