Bristlepede 🤎 Polyxenus sp bristle millipede. Just a couple millimeters long.

Tiny brown millipede which looks like a swiffer mop head or something - floof between each body segment and bristly tufts covering the legs all around the lower edge of the creature. Chilling on a flake of pine bark

Two big-headed flies mating, the male on top of female. They on the end of a small twig with a black background and are facing right. They are dark, with evenly-spaced light gray patches on their abdomen. Their heads are massive and made up mostly of the eyes.

This Omophron limbatum (sometimes called Spangled Button-beetle) appeared in my garden moth trap last night. Despite looking like a cross between a ladybird and a diving beetle it’s actually a very unusual ground beetle (Carabidae). It’s very active and runs extremely fast! #UKbeetles

A round beetle with dull reddish-brown and black markings. Its pale legs are very long, especially the rear ones.

first instar owlfly larva, all fuzzy and setose, already with impressive mouthparts

modified sterile eggs used as a barrier to protect the eggs from predation. these little pegs were covered with an ant-repellent substance, preventing hungry insects from crawling up the stem and getting to the eggs

Neglected needle-tail flies mating on giant goldenrod. You can see the namesake needle-tail of the female as well as the long proboscis that both sexes possess. Incredibly strange flies, I'm so glad they are staying in my yard. #Bugsky #nativeplants
