Hi, I’m a Racoon. 🌈🧑🏼‍🌾🪴🥐☕️🥘📚🎮🌖♊️ DC

🧠 TONIGHT! A new episode of Smartypants launches on Dropout at 7PM ET / 4PM PT! Featuring host Rekha Shankar and speakers: 🐖 Roz Hernandez 🐖 Talia Tabin 🐖 Rashawn Nadine Scott

I’ve been having such a fascinating summer of experimenting with life without antidepressants (0/10; would not recommend); but this podcast explores a really big part of what has been on my mind. My attention is too precious a resource to be the pawn of the tech bros. And yours is too.

Most Americans wish they could go back to a time before “everyone was plugged in.” In this episode, Natalie Brennan and @julieebeck.bsky.social explore what’s behind analog nostalgia—and what it means for our relationship with technology in the future.

The biggest risk in this moment is something sociologists call “symbolic compliance.” That’s when an institution that is violating civil rights gives the public just enough symbolic victories that accountability efforts lose steam before there has been any meaningful change.

Voting NO on the DHS funding bill is the bare minimum. Backing Kristi Noem’s impeachment is the bare minimum. Holding law-breaking ICE agents legally accountable is the bare minimum. ICE is beyond reform. Abolish it.

In addition to abolishing ICE and trying and jailing every single one of those fuckers, disarming US federal law enforcement so they can't casually kill people seems to be a minimum demand for the future.
