I read and I stitch, but more often, I go down ADHD rabbit holes. UK based She/her http://word-geek.dreamwidth.org @word_geeking on Insta

Today a medical professional asked if my weight had changed Honest answer? You took me off my ADHD meds (for good reason) so yes, I have put on weight but I'm 100% sure that's just the chocolate I ate to survive work My medical notes are going to be a joy We prob solved why I'm coughing, tho

Today, I avoided being a weirdo twice, once when a group of teens were confused by the names of different train tickets and then when a different group encountered a book by Tom Holland and I didn't gleefully tell them that the historian had interviewed the actor See, info dumping *can* be deferred

This is Ihor Malchevskyi, a 69-year-old scientist at the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine, escaping the flames after a Russian attack. I could also write, "the whole world watched this live," but we can see that news from Ukraine has long been out of focus. 📹: DW

I looked up the cast list for Reacher season 3 to find out who the Guy Bigger Than Reacher was (in replies elsewhere, but I decided not to hijack the original thread more) The guy who played the dad had looked faintly familiar. It was Anthony Michael Hall

Elizabethan playhouses were supplied by a network of tailors, merchants & craftswomen. Their names survive in records, but little is known about their lives. I’m working on new research that brings the stories of these makers & traders centre stage. Here is the project in biscuit (cookie) form. 🍪

A photograph of eight rectangular biscuits (cookies) arranged in two rows on a square white plate. The plate is framed on all sides by a trailing vine pattern in green with pops of red. The biscuits are mostly in shades of ivory, cream, yellow, and grey, with a burst of vivid red and blue in one corner of the arrangement. Moving across the top row of biscuits from left to right, the designs include: neat lines of handwritten names in an early modern parish register; a section of a hand-drawn map from 1561 featuring St Paul’s Cathedral, with street names like ‘Carter Lane’ visible in a tiny spiky font; an extract of text from a funerary monument printed in an early modern book, ending ‘So transitory is our glory’; a section of embroidery from a funeral pall featuring metallic silver armour, crossed gold keys, and two hands holding up a crown. The biscuit designs on the bottom row include: horses prancing past shopfronts on Cheapside in the mid-sixteenth century; a receipt written in early modern secretary hand, which is difficult to read; a portrait of a stern-looking women dressed in a ruff, pearls, and sober dark clothing; swirling calligraphy and dense secretary hand featuring on a will dating from 1638.

1/19 Eleven years after a church picnic in New York killed a thousand people, a company picnic in Chicago killed 844 more. The ship never left the wharf. She rolled over while the band was playing, in twenty feet of water, six metres from the bank. The SS Eastland. A 🧵. #maritimehistory

On the *same day* the Cornell Seven drugged and raped Jane Doe, Cornell banned four students (including the President of Cornell JVP) from campus for three years for nonviolent, pro-Palestine protests. The same Cornell officials let the rapists off with apology essays.

I am starting to really hate it when you look up something and it's illustrated with something egregiously inaccurate In this case, films that used Kedleston Hall, text says Jane Eyre, image is of Princess Bride

We have something very cute to share with you today 🦉 This summer, a pair of barn owls successfully reared four owlets at Kedleston Hall, marking Kedleston's first known breeding success in over two decades.

Four young barn owls jostle onto the small wooden ledge of their nest box, fixed to a huge oak tree behind themA young barn owl in flight, its wings stretched up above it against a blurry green background, its white heart-shaped face facing the cameraA young barn own in flight, a blurry oak tree behind it, its huge white and brown wings beating downwards as it looks at the cameraA barn owl swooping down with its wings fanned wide across a field of long purplish grass

Re: last repost, this one is definitely a trope to avoid, but I also see it in discussions of real life, most recently people talking about disabilities caused by measles The real people affected by that can see it when you present their lives as a terrible consequence of not vaccinating

Disabled people do not exist as life lessons for your nondisabled characters/readers. Plenty of people believe that’s what we’re for IRL. I am not your teaching tool to remind you to be grateful or whatever. I am a human being with rights and dignity and needs. So must your disabled character be.

This news is important because all the fucks out there actively attempting to wreck the world want you to think that the work is hopeless and just mitigating the worst case scenario. It's not. Fucking keep going.

We now have rigorous pooled data showing that even without active restoration efforts, cleared rainforest can rebound to 75% of their former species composition and 90% of species diversity within just thirty years. #goodnews

Watch what you post because Threads just might pretend you're the guy who masturbated on the plane. What just happened to Peter Shankman is a warning for all of us using Meta products.

People living on easy mode with respect to executive function are so resentful that another group is breaking away from being a target for their contempt An ADHD diagnosis reframes your whole life. And it is so wonderful to break the cycle by giving the next generation that information early

Yes. Understanding my struggles through a lens other than being a moral failure helps me. The meds help me be an almost functional human being. My adult ADHD diagnosis has been life-changing. I want that for others it would help; fuck you for not wanting that for other people too.
