When I visited Laodikeia in September there was not a square cm of shade to be found, so I may have thrown some in this article about Laodikeia to make up for it. This is an exclusive bonus article for @workingclassicists.bsky.social that expands on a crucial moment I discuss in my book.

Cicero, eh? Irritating when he talks, but as @belovedofoizys.bsky.social has found, even more irritating when he doesn't! So, what WAS he doing with his gladiators in Cilicia? www.workingclassicists.com/zine/the-one...

I was so anxious about my book getting its first review, so I'm massively chuffed that this review is so positive, but also that the reviewer understood exactly what I was trying to do. Might have a little cry to celebrate. Also, enter the Working Classicists' giveaway and I'll sign a copy for you!

We’ve got a copy of Alexandra Sills’ incredible new book ‘Gladiators in the Greek World' to give away - it’s signed and everything! Our review: www.workingclassicists.com/zine/book-re... T&Cs: UK only, ends 3rd Aug, RT this post and follow us and her (@belovedofoizys.bsky.social) to enter.

Cover of Gladiators in the Greek World featuring a relief of two pairs of gladiators fighting.

Classicists criticising The Odyssey film without having watched it is making me cringe inside out. Sorry but it’s a win. It’s accessible, it’s appealing, it’s pissing off right wingers, and it’s explicitly named after a classical text that working class people will now go and pick up. Take the W.

This has been something I've been meaning to write for quite some time and the Homer contretemps gave it the opportunity. The thing I most wanted to draw out is that it isn't one fool on Twitter with a helmet, but a radicalization pipeline designed to lead antiquity-curious young men into fascism.

"It’s unfortunate that almost none of the people behind these accounts know very much about the ancient world." Unfortunately, ignorance is not the only thing wrong with them. @bretdevereaux.bsky.social on Elon Musk's X and the fascist statue accounts: www.thebulwark.com/p/why-stone-...

I referenced this book in my latest video! It's great, definitely worth a read

If you're a lecturer interested in pedagogy and in particular, helping working class students who might need a little extra advice to help them catch up with their privately schooled cohort, drop me a DM. Let's create something that will really benefit students.

I really want to make @ancienthistory101.org a useful resource, and I want to have bonus episodes for students like "how to write a great essay with a tight word limit", "how to plan your dissertation", "how to approach gobbets in exams", "tips for finding scholarship and building your bibliography"
