DoorDash says HR 9720 would provide for “the kind of affirmative, time-limited congressional review already used for other categories of D.C. legislation.” This is false! The bill would create a brand-new category in which a do-nothing Congress will block any tax cut or tax hike or other change.

Moody’s has just affirmed DC’s bond rating (Aa1), while saying it would lower the rating if the District fails to balance its budget. Recall that the Council shrugged off the CFO’s recent warning that its budget was unbalanced—because the CFO was dead wrong. CFO credibility in junk territory

CFO Glen Lee again sounds the warning that he’d view the budget as “unbalanced” if the council proceeds with its plan to pull $150m from reserves: a key phrase because it’s his job to judge whether the budget is balanced each year. He could throw a wrench in the works here…

Lee Chief Financial Officer June 22, 2026 The Honorable Phil Mendelson, Chairman, Council of the District of Columbia The Honorable Members of the Council of the District of Columbia 1350 Pennsylvania Avenue, NW Washington, DC 20004 Re: FY 2027 Budget and Financial Plan Dear Chairman Mendelson and Members of the Council: On June 9, 2026, the Council took its initial vote on the District's Fiscal Year 2027 budget and financial plan. In that action, the Council chose to appropriate $150 million from the Fiscal Stabilization Reserve Account (FSRA). As described in my letter to the Council on June 5, 2026, the District's local reserves, including the FSRA, are needed to manage and support the cash flow needs of the District's fiscal operations. It is imprudent to depend on these resources to support appropriations during FY 2027 and each fiscal year thereafter. Therefore, in my judgment, the District reserves are not available to support appropriations in the financial plan as they are needed to meet the District's liquidity needs. As you are aware, pursuant to the Home Rule Act, the Council is required to approve a balanced budget in which expenditures do not exceed available resources. Rather than use reserves which are needed for liquidity, the Council can choose to make appropriations contingent upon revenue collections exceeding forecasts. The OCFO would implement these appropriations if mutually agreed-upon criteria are met for when revenue collections actually exceed forecasts. However, should the Council persist with approving a budget that uses reserves to support spending, the Council would be approving an unbalanced budget and financial plan. I again urge the Council to pass a balanced budget and four-year financial plan that does not reduce the local reserves, which are essential for District liquidity. Sincere! ALM. Glen M. Dozens of Patriot Front members just boarded metro minutes ago at the Eastern Market station in Washington, D.C. I asked one National Guard member who they were and they responded "protesters." A July 4th community parade is about to begin just outside the Eastern Market station.

Decided to test how much faster Snap311 is than the DC311 app. 21 seconds vs 72 seconds for a single request from app open. Thinking about how much time people waste because DC Gov isn’t interested in improving the user experience. Over 100 requests, this is >1 hr wasted

When I was 13, my grandparents gave me stock in Hershey’s candy as a bar mitzvah gift because I liked candy. I had to sell it this year when I married an FDA employee. Because, as we all know, the federal government is very concerned about financial conflicts of interest.

I took a Constitutional Law class in the fall semester of 2009. Even though the professor was a Federalist Society cofounder, everything we learned turned out to be foundationally wrong. We would have been better prepared for today’s world if we had spent the whole term on Bush v. Gore.

It’s wonderful that this family is doing this, and I hope they get plenty of business. It would be better if DC government made it easy to dispose of household hazardous waste, but the next upcoming events are in September. All of the surrounding jurisdictions accept HHW at least 6 days per week.

My neighbor built a functioning 311 app in a matter of hours while it took OUC more than 6 weeks to fix their broken app. Throughout this process, OUC has been more interested in protecting themselves than learning from his app.
