Today the New Mexico Truth Commission issued their first interim public report on their investigation into the Epstein case in New Mexico and Zorro Ranch. There is a long way to go & we will continue to stand with survivors. You can read the report here: static1.squarespace.com/static/6a075...
This is worth amplifying (also this podcast is rad), that Roman slavery was, y'know, slavery. In fact, all slavery is horrifying, but the broader 'Mediterranean' slavery tradition (which is also, by the by, the ancestor of Atlantic slavery) is one of the *more extreme* such traditions.
Next time someone tries to tell you that Roman slavery was different or better than other forms of slavery, tell them to listen to last week’s episode of @thisguysucked.com and/or buy Emma’s book.
New Mexico is asking a federal judge to compel the DOJ to release files related to abuse allegations at Jeffrey Epstein’s Zorro Ranch, accusing the agency and acting attorney general Todd Blanche in a lawsuit of “stonewalling” its investigation. www.forbes.com/sites/sarado...

This is great for the climate (and yet another court overturning for the Trump Admin.)
Judge Williams denies Trump's motion for a stay of her sanctions order and agrees with the amici to let them file a brief in normal course, due August 14. So absent a stay from the 11th circuit, the official state of play on the settlement agreement is that there is no settlement agreement.
One year from now, I don’t want to hear members of Congress acting shocked about the damage Todd Blanche does as the United States Attorney General. They know exactly what they’re voting for, and they had a chance to stop it. Consider them complicit because that’s what they are
The conventional wisdom is the Democrats' big climate law failed to deliver votes and then died. That's wrong. My new study finds its factories moved 2.5 million votes—more than Trump's margin. And the law's still alive. My latest in @theatlantic.com. Gift link! www.theatlantic.com/ideas/2026/0...
Bidenomics Was More Successful Than People Think
Conventional wisdom holds that Joe Biden’s bet on climate investment was a bust. The data suggest otherwise.

I wrote about how weird and bad it is to have a future AG going around claiming he'll make Dobbs "permanent in every single state"—unless he understands Dobbs to be a national abortion ban, and thinks his job is to force states to comply
Todd Blanche Is Claiming That He Can Ban Abortion In Any State
As he fights to be confirmed as attorney general, Blanche is trying to appease Christian-right groups with wild legal theories about restricting abortion.

That’s not even to mention Jeffrey Hart, the mentor to D’Souza, Ingraham, and the current head of the DOJ civil rights division. bsky.app/profile/seth...
Maybe it was a sign when the person Trump put in charge of the DOJ's Civil Rights division was a protege of Jeffrey Hart at Dartmouth, a man who wrote this column in 1977.
Additional commentary on that 1997 NR masthead, the heyday of “responsible conservatism.” bsky.app/profile/seth...
Looking at this NR masthead from 1997 and I notice that not only is Dinesh on it, but the top editor is currently shilling for Orban in Hungary, the 2nd guy heads up the white nationalist org VDare, and then there's Mark Levin (lol), eugenicist Ernest van den Haag, & segregationist Kilpatrick.
FWIW, both of VDARE’s founders were on the masthead of the National Review in the late 1990s and early 2000s. Peter Brimelow was also a staffer for Senator Orrin Hatch. This white nationalist thread has been present in the conservative movement for a long time. Screenshot is from 1997.
SCHIFF: You told my staff you stood by your article in white nationalist website VDARE where you wrote, 'Muslim immigrants & their kids seem prone to terrorism' C: I wrote that article in support of Trump's travel ban S: Do you stand by it? C: I stand by that article S: That's all I need to know
Kevin is not exaggerating, VDARE was not white nationalist in the sense of "well if you get right down to it the modern GOP has always been white nationalist" VDARE was white nationalist in the sense of "yeah those Nazis sure are white nationalist"
Gonna go out on a limb here and say racist cranks who write for extremist white nationalist websites like VDARE should not, in fact, be confirmed to top roles in the Department of Justice.

holy shit -- Schiff ties Trump's judicial nominees in knots by asking them who won the 2016 before *before* asking them who won in 2020, which results in them sounding like election deniers about Trump's victories!
Why don’t they phrase the question as, “Did Joe Biden win the 2020 election?”
BLUMENTHAL: Judge Cronan, you're already on the district court. Who won the 2020 election? CRONAN: Joseph Biden received the majority of electoral votes B: You have nothing to lose. You have a lifetime appointment, and yet you're unwilling to state the simple fact that Biden won the 2020 election
I hope people will actually listen to the statements of El Sayed about his focus--improving the lives of the people of Michigan, getting money out of politics, unrigging the system, standing up to Trump, Rogers & MAGA--and tune out the inside-the-beltway soap opera about division peddled by pundits.
May I point out that both El-Sayed and Stevens are Millennials. Generational shift. It's here. It's time. November up here won't just be about progressivism vs. fascism. It will also be about the future vs. the past.
