So apparently the City of Portland is reorganizing the City Administrator’s office yet AGAIN, and is adding back a Deputy CA position they cut last year to “streamline operations”—except with a less clear mandate and a service area called “Strategic Enterprises” because of course.

If Barbur Blvd was a person: curvy, too wide, useless. Transit, architecture, urban geography. Opinions are that of *your* employer.
oregon voters please take this as a sort of christmas carol situation where we get a window into the world where we elected a fake moderate female republican candidate statewide who pretended to be pro choice and anti trump and ended up voting consistently for republican priorities
OOPS GOP ad buyer mixes up Portlands, spends money meant to help Maine Sen. Susan Collins in Oregon The PAC boosting Collins is "absolutely furious" at the "ridiculous error" made by the buyer, which takes blame and has refunded the money. www.nbcnews.com/politics/202...
there was also basically no coverage of: - first ever oversight hearing re: admin not disclosing housing funds to council - failure to substantiate any of the claims to economic benefits for moda center deal. - failure to dig into project mt hood in a substantive way for example
It’s wild that no other media outlet besides the Mercury is covering the Dan Ryan text saga…like, these lobbyists were calling councilors of color racial epithets. They called me a burrito. Meanwhile there were ten million stories about daddy gate, but crickets on this? Disparity in standards
Absolutely unconscionable. Instead of using AI to make their white employees brown to feature them, maybe @trimet.org should just tell the stories of their employees of color.
TriMet uses AI to put their employees in brownface by the way! I know the employee in question and he is a white man, and looks like he was AI prompted to be Latino/combined with one of my other old coworkers who is Latino
Portland City Council candidate Kellie Torres gave two notably different answers about PCEF funding on October 7 and 8. Here are both exchanges:
“What if Oregon’s manifesto, going forward, were simple? Keep the air of this place smelling like the woods. Make the water so clear you can see to the bottom. Keep the coastline open forever. Make sure Oregon stays wild: in the woods, in the cities.” oregonhumanities.org/rll/magazine...
Went to a Sen.Pham party last night and was awed by a room filled with environmental, housing, and labor advocates who were there to celebrate a fierce and effective fighter for working class families. Thank you, @khanhphamfororegon.com your support and for all you do for Oregon families like mine!
It’s so cool how the modern conservative movement is antithetically opposed to property rights when it comes to legalizing homebuilding
Conservative government of Alberta is preempting Edmonton, requiring the city to: —Reverse the city's 2024 change allowing small-scale apartment buildings to be built citywide. Change resulted in a building boom: www.cbc.ca/news/canada/... —Restore parking requirements, which city eliminated in 2020
Donald Trump has a significantly harsher “death to America” stance than the IRGC does at this point I think
Trump: You wanna see trauma? I said it the other day. Let them hit a missile into San Diego or Los Angeles.
After being revealed to be a bigot and just generally bitchmade, Brian Owendoff is now saying that *allowing the free market the choice to build multifamily housing in one of the most walkable, transit-oriented areas of the metro* is... (checks notes)... a radical socialist plot? Genius. No notes!

Was up in the club and a guy asked if I had any ‘Special K.’ I replied that I did, but that he was at home 🏠 ♥️. (Special K stands for Special Kitty 🐈⬛ )
In my mind, a return to work for MultCo workers doesn't make much sense. Most of them aren't downtown, so there isn't a 'central city revitalization' angle here. JVP is basically just mandating a bunch of civil servants consume gas during a combination energy/climate crisis.
Multnomah County workers are pushing back against a return-to-office mandate.
If you weren't motivated before, this is a good reason to support a Senate takeover (especially in Maine). Going from 6-3 to 5-3 for 2 years may not seem like much, but every step counts.
The Supreme Court is on the ballot. And with it the future of the Republic.
Portland City Councilor Eric Zimmerman lied on a right-wing podcast claiming that six councilors want to investigate Oregon companies who do business with Jewish companies. It’s crazy what conservatives are allowed to get away with in this town, making light of real issues like antisemitism.
“Weaponized Charges of Antisemitism”: Human Rights Advocates Reject Councilors’ Characterizations of Investment Policy - Portland Mercury

Sort of insane fact about how broken US urban planning is—America now spends more building *just the lights for roads and highways* than on all subways & ground mass transit combined Spending on roadway *pavement* is 18x transit spending
I know this post will make sense to only like 1, maybe 2 of my followers, but 35' and 30' buses are part of the queer community (35' buses are, specially, bisexual).
I just got an ad saying the Street Trust endorsed Julia Brim-Edwards. What the fuck are we doing, gang?
The Street Trust endorsing Susan McLain… lol. Lmao, even.
This measure should demonstrate (to all sides) that there are hard limits to allyship as the only organizing principle. This is a bad idea, badly conceived, and very badly drafted - and some prominent allies (who I will continue to support) should have said so, like a year ago.
I am very interested in seeing the different endorsement write ups in the fall because my gut is agreeing with your opposition, but am having some real cognitive dissonance because I find myself disagreeing with a lot of people I typically agree with and vice versa specifically about this measure.
the airos look nice, and will solve an urgent operational problem that’s consistently degrading the passenger experience on the cascades — a win is a win! HOWEVER
I think it’s officially time to freak the fuck about the governor’s race. In the last 3 days, I have spoken with at least half a dozen lifelong urban democrats who say they’re planning on voting for Christine Drazan just to wake the Democratic Party of Oregon up to their discontent.
I despise that it is the left who is constantly seen as being uncompromising and self-righteous when, in my experience, I have never met someone who is more certain of their own moral and intellectual superiority than a centrist arguing for the status quo, and doing so as if that’s being “neutral.”

feels like there’s multiple compounding mammoth economic financial disasters that are all are about to explode right as the dems take charge, the big ugly federal bill chief along them. It’s gonna suck and also new dem leadership needs to be willing to go big and not shirk from meeting the moment
chat is this good?
If wikipedia is correct, this basically means every train sells every seat at least once. This is very impressive!
Brightline is moving 275 people per departure on 35 departures per day. A lot of people want to go—and that's despite 35-40% of its customers having a publicly subsidized, parallel option right next to it.

for all the handwringing about city council drama i don’t think this gets emphasized nearly enough
We're approaching the second election under Portland's new ranked-choice system (and districts!). What have candidates and local politics watchers learned from the first election? It's a little 😫, a little 🤔 and mostly a lot of 🤷.
