I dunno if this newsletter was for the shock value or if this is this person really wants me to unsubscribe. This came at the oddest of times 😩 and I'm just so tired.. and too tired to even put what I'm feeling into words 😩

This was a fascinating exercise: find out what went wrong with creativity in the games industry. The conclusion: there are too many cowards controlling too many critical levers, and until we figure out how to put people -taste, creativity, and craft- back at the top, we're going to be stuck.

The games industry is stifled by a culture of fear, concludes a workgroup hosted by Rami Ismail. https://bit.ly/4vPbIzv

One of the best things about Global Game Jam is seeing our community show up for each other. Juntos was started by GGJ organizers across Latin America, including our organizers in Venezuela, who wanted to find a meaningful way to help after the recent earthquakes. 🔗 Register: buff.ly/DjFpvyB

Juntos Game Jam for Venezuela earthquake relief. World Food Program USA and Global Game Jam.“Those of us who make video games know that no project comes together on its own: it always takes a team. Today, Venezuela needs one. As a Venezuelan and an organizer of the Global Game Jam, I’m thrilled to see how many of my colleagues across the country are coming together for this cause, and how the global community responded immediately. It’s proof of something I’ve always believed: video games bring people together to create things of value, even - and especially - in the darkest of times. In games, we learn that after every fall comes another try. Venezuela will rise again, and this Jam is our way of lending a hand in the process.
That’s why I invite you to join this charity Jam: create, play, and share with us to raise funds for those affected. And if you can’t participate, you can also help with a donation. Every contribution counts. We’re moving forward, for those who come after us.”
 - Denyam Noguera, GGJ site organizer of Zulia GameJam, Zulia, Venezuela"One of the things I love most about the Global Game Jam community is how quickly people come together when someone needs support. In moments like this, when so many people have been affected by tragedy, that sense of community becomes even more important. This initiative started with organizers in Venezuela, but it quickly became something the wider Latin American community wanted to be part of. Games have always been a way to bring people together, and through this Game Jam we hope to do exactly that while celebrating the creativity, talent, and culture that make Venezuela so special." – Chriss Vasquez, GGJ regional organizer for Latin AmericaJuntos: Game Jam for Venezuela Earthquake Relief. Join the Jam July 24-26, 2026. You don't need to donate to jam, you don't need to jam to donate. WFP USA and Global Game Jam.

I wanted to write something thoughtful about XBOX's wanton destruction spree of their talent, portfolio, and future - on how XBOX has destroyed so much trust from both of its audiences - from developers and players. But how can I write anything thoughtful about such thoughtless greed?

game devs: what are the myths that a lot of players of games think are true about making games that are completely untrue? If you could snap your fingers and they suddenly all knew the truth about it what would it be?

tired of the "#1 dad" nonsense. if you're a dad, stop treating it like a joke and post your actual national dad ranking. i'm # 492,018, which is actually really high up there, but more importantly it lets me enter ranked dad lobbies where i can get matched up for fistfights with dads of my caliber

Godot: - is free & yours to modify - isn’t run by shareholders with a different agenda - doesn’t support genAI - is easy to transition to - is very capable - has its own quirks - exports to desktop & mobile, and to console through 3rd party services (for now) lmk if you need help transition to it
