Today would have been the 60th birthday of my long gone girlfriend Lesley Pitts, who died in 1999. This essay is one I wrote about our time together living in Chelsea, a neighborhood I'd loved since my nights hanging at Danceteria a decade before. open.substack.com/pub/opensecr...

I'll just add a line from the movie Car Wash, from Antonio Fargas' gender-queer character, Lindy. Taunted by a bigot, he fires back, "I'm more man than you'll ever be and more woman than you'll ever get." These jerks afraid of a strong, intelligent BLACK woman have no idea how weak they are.

Josh Hokit just ended his post-fight speech at the White House UFC event by yelling "Michelle Obama is a man!" A disgraceful spectacle through and through

June 11, 1963. My late sister in law - Vivian Malone - with the help of the Department of Justice and President Kennedy integrated the University of Alabama. The Governor of the state, George Wallace, stood in the school house door to prevent her from enrolling.

Don't forget to take a little extra time out to be racist to Black people today! It's a Memorial Day tradition! Remember, US history isn't US history until weirdos like Hegseth have instructed everyone to remove all traces of Black people's contributions from it! 🤡

Happy Memorial day, especially to those who know how Memorial Day started. Far right officials in multiple states think that knowing how Memorial Day started would somehow make people like their country less. I think these officials trying to erase history are making people like their country less.

One way or another, this country is going to learn that accommodating white supremacist ideology will destroy this country. It did so once before and is doing so again. Is this country really prepared to allow our military to be DESTROYED by racism & sexism. Are we watching this like a TV show?
