Brilliant bit of business in this Special Branch. Two cups of tea presented to George Sewell and Patrick Mower, along with a bowl of sugar lumps. Sewell reaches for a lump and Mower smacks his hand - he's clearly supposed to be cutting it out. Sewell removes his hand, and Mower takes a lump himself.
I've only just heard about this...because we were watching an episode of the Jeremy Brett Sherlock Holmes. This was such an important piece of TV for teenage me. It's the first time I really started to think about acting in the context of production, and to pick apart the choices they were making.

Given the whole mood at the moment - there are a lot of strong feelings around Al, and it feels like the most likely explanation for why everyone hates data centres is because they don't love what's going on inside the data centres and the implications of that. So when a report comes out that says we might have 15 per cent annual growth in 2030, that's going to wind up some people. When it's also saying we might have double-digit knowledge-worker unemployment, that's going to scare some other people. I'm curious, when you put together a piece of work like this, are you thinking about how that might come across? What's your intended impact?
Jack Clark: We build this stuff driven by a pure research goal of figuring out what's actually the truth. I lead the Anthropic Institute, which is a series of research teams here, and our mandate is to take information, or in this case, assumptions, that only the Al labs have, and get that information and that set of assumptions out to the public, so people can better understand the different views that Al companies have about the future. Some scenarios look like Al as a normal technology, other scenarios look like the singularity is nigh and very, very significant things are going to happen to the economy. So we built a tool that captures all of these different views. We don't build this stuff with a particular narrative in mind at the start. We're sharing this because if these scenarios end up being right, you probably want to make a bunch of different choices about the world. I get presented with an inordinate number of "how to cook perfect poached eggs" in my YouTube feed. The most notable thing about them is that most don't actually poach the egg. Coddled eggs, baked eggs, peeled boiled eggs... All nice. But not poached. Thank you for your attention to this matter.
I assume, like their inability to read Tolkien, they were also unable to read Wodehouse and thought they were part of a fascist tradition. Which in a sense they are.

Many moons ago I bought what I thought was the Complete Tales of the Unexpected DVDs from Network. I have finally got around to breaking it open and transferring it to my media system. Turns out it is a weird 10-disc set with S1-4 and, for some reason, the first 6 episodes of S5. What's that about?
Today every single one of my joints is painful. Putting away the grocery order was quite challenging. (This is what happens whenever I get a cold or other unbelievably mild viral infection. Probably a result of going to the cinema yesterday.)
For anyone who has been following progress on my The Bill rewatch, I am struggling my way towards the live anniversary special. We are at the "Polly has been arrested, Mickey is about to be attacked" stage, and it is like trying to walk through Grimpen Mire in high heels.
You have to ask who is protecting these people and why the Labour Government has nothing to say. I keep hearing Neil Kinnock's furious "A Labour Council. A LABOUR Council" every time the current Government does anything like its Section 28 redux, or its tacit support for this lot.

Compare that to yesterday when 200-400 fascist paramilitaries intimidated Dover town and blocked the Port: 0 arrests.
They should pass another one that bans uninformed political protest. That'd thin it out a bit.

I have wasted a vast amount of energy arguing with someone who I should have realised much earlier was a shill. I've blocked them now, but that was too late. The extraordinary part is that I was arguing *for* the thing they shilling, but I dared to suggest there were challenges.
