does Sony not get that being hard on this while announcing the end of physical means "you don't own anything on our platform"? dont they see that people have been tired of streaming services for years? because if $20 a month for access to everything is too much, $80 for one thing isn't happening

Sony says "reasonable consumers" know they don’t own the digital PlayStation games they buy. It argues that it's "not plausible" to suggest that when they buy a digital game they actually believe they're "obtaining ownership" of it. www.videogameschronicle.com/news/sony-sa...

we uninstalled Tokon like, 2 days ago things we like in fighting games: movement, zoning, blocking, mix things we don't like like in fighting games: strong universal mechanics, doing blockstrings, stage gimmicks, mechanics that punish you for blocking (guard break, RISC) Tokon just isn't it

"Milo got arrested!" "That's good!" "By an unaccountable secret police force" "That's bad" "He supported them, though, so there's delicious irony at play." "That's good!" "But they came for him because fascist power has reached a point where petty infighting can lead to arrests" "That's bad"

💥let's try a little world replacement exercise when a new live service game dies, don't say "rip bozo, the devs killed the game, they deserved it" instead try saying "the insatiable gaping maw of corporate overlords killed a project with promise before it could shine" think y'all could do that?

Even when you've made a successful game, devs are constantly barraged by the same online people claiming they know how their game should be made. There absolutely is no winning when trying to appease backseat developers. The same devs can be laid off at a moment's notice too.

annoyed that we're not the kind of player that can swap between games we've played before. we really need to practice something nonstop to stay fresh. makes it hard to interact with the FGC, where there's this message of "dabble with everything, enjoy all of fighting games!" nope. 1 game limit

Seeing takes like this without context is wild ass work. 1.) 2XKO failed because of Riot. They didn’t know how to foster a good fighting game, they just wanted another Free2Premium track to prey upon players. 2.) Fatal Fury failed because Saudi blood money put a rapist in the launch roster.

Major failures like 2XKO and Fatal Fury will basically drive away nearly all new investment for a AAA scale title. Not to mention the lackluster staying power for things like Avatar Legends and Invincible VS basically mean the indie/ AA market is also somewhat cooked.

points at sign: THE GAMES INDUSTRY’S CUSTOMER IS THE STOCK MARKET, NOT THE GAMER Live service games are seen as ‘worth the risk’ because when one blows up (Roblox, Fortnite, GTA Online) it makes so much money that it covers all previous failures and more. What gamers say is irrelevant to this.

@alanahpearce.bsky.social As someone who knows more about the gaming industry, do the higher ups just don’t listen anymore or do they just have selective hearing? Do we need to throw physical money at them and tell them “we want just a single player game, no multiplayer.”
