Signal boost. ME is an abbreviation for myalgic encephelomyelitis. I knew someone in grad school who had this disease.. ISTFG she seemed to spend so much time/energy convincing people her illness was real.

Today, Aug 8, is #SevereMEDay. Today we discuss severe-presenting #MECFS and remember people with severe ME. #MECFS is an infection-associated chronic illness, which means it is often, but not always, kicked off by an infection. ~Half of #LongCOVID cases at 6 mo meet the dx criteria for ME/CFS. 🧵

Two diagrams from the Mayo Clinic Proceedings article I co-authored. On the left, a diagram of a woman's body, including symptoms of fatigue, muscle aches, PEM, cognitive dysfunction, unrefreshing sleep, orthostatic intolerance, temp. dysregulation, urinary frequency, myalgia, sensory sensitivity/reactivity, swollen lymph nodes & other flu-like symptoms, shortness of breath, palpitations/chest pain, appetite changes and diarrhea/constipation. On the right, a wheel diagram of symptoms that may flare in post-exertional malaise, the pathology that occurs w/overexertion in which many symptoms flare and new symptoms may appear. It notes that PEM is not deconditioning, not being more tired than usual after activity, not second-day muscle soreness and symptoms are not necessarily relieved by sleep. It includes all the symptoms mentioned in the first diagram but has some sections on what it's like in the patient's own words.

I’m on a small-ship Alaska cruise with my son; our boat rescued a stranded vessel last night and apparently we did that after the Coast Guard radioed Mark Zuckerberg’s yacht - which was closer - and they repeatedly refused to respond. (There was near unanimous booing when the captain announced this)

I’m trying to determine if I’m becoming incoherent as I age, or if critical-thinking skills have deteriorated slowly over the decades I have been online. Could be both!

If they can send even a single scientist to prison over something that plainly did not happen, they can imprison anyone for anything at any time for any reason. Those are the stakes. You don’t hear that from legacy publications like NYT.

My taxes paid for our military and Claude to bomb a school in Iran, to arm Israel for their genocide in Gaza, and also paid Trump and Friends to build a bunch of concentration camps and paid the Gestapo to shoot innocent people in the street. I'm fine with folks getting cheaper food on my dime

Opinion: Mamdani's idea may sound appealing, but it's NYC taxpayers who will take the hit, subsidizing discounts they may never even use.

So there are these videos on Instagram and I assume TikTok that are a little occult-y, and something that comes up is not having mirrors in one’s room, as these are portals, and worse you never want two mirrors to face each other.

I had the misfortune of hanging out around the Stanford Hospital cancer a few months after peak COVID. The care patients took with masking, using polymeric respirators, etc was encouraging to me or anyone else who had this idea that living was desirable.

In re Nolan’s THE ODYSSEY, were they translating from modern Greek on their first landing after setting for home? Where everything was on fire in the seaside village?

The only taxidermied blue whale in the world, 1865 CE, now housed at the Natural History Museum in Sweden. The public was allowed to enter the whale up until a couple was found having sex inside it. Now the whale’s jaws are opened only for special occasions, such as Swedish election days.

After a lifetime of public service and dedication to the health of Americans and people around the world it is obscene that Dr. Anthony Fauci is being forced to sit in front of this Congressional committee and face these absurd accusations.
