i knew puzzle touchdown was inspired by the vortex gallery puzzle mystery tournament, but i didn't realize how much raku-jong it wears on its sleeve. btw i can confirm everything about the grand finals experience - i was in the crowd being extremely loud trying to backseat drive the players

somebody at mahjong locals today described avoiding dealing in without hard folding as "rotating" their hand and it's such an obvious and accurate translation of mawashi that I have no idea how it's not already vernacular

in some kansai sanma rulesets they allow continued kans even when no replacement tiles are available; you just gain an almighty tile instead. it'd be funny to apply this rule to exhaustive draws as well -- instead of aborting, you just keep gaining more and more almighty tiles until someone wins

problem: playing hand-shuffle sanma with flowers leads to unequal distribution when building walls solution: add 2 5m to the tile pool. not as nukidora though. let it count as a shuntsu with 19m so you can form a manzu sequence. iipeikou 159m becomes mangan or something idk

it is kind of wack how a SEA puyo tournament series has never existed. actually, is there a dedicated ASEAN puyo community hub at all? back when EPPC had location-based channels only #asia-other-regions saw any regular foot traffic at all, did that all just disappear into the aether upon retirement?

whenever i gotta explain mahjong to a total stranger i try to do so by way of card game analogy "do you know rummy" fails like 99% of the time "do you know poker" i'm actually shocked how many people DON'T know how to play poker. i always figured it was one of those things you pick up by osmosis
