ICE is now lying in wait outside convenience stores, or at busy intersections. Agents are arresting people at international airports. Local police and sheriffs, deputized by the federal government, are detaining immigrants during traffic stops. ICE is now detaining more immigrants than ever before.

I want to make another point here, that I think Faine does an excellent job of highlighting: there isn't anything particularly wrong with putting on sex parties with consenting adults A big issue here is that women are being pressured to attend in order to network *professionally*

Women trying to succeed in Silicon Valley AI and effective altruist spaces are reporting feeling serious social pressure to attend sex parties - where people have reported being sexually assaulted, like below. Events like Aella’s “Slutcon,” which is happening again this weekend.

I already lost a bunch of followers for agreeing with @tautologer, but it's saddening to see local nerdy women being caricatured as Karen-like outsiders and getting pushed out of the scene. This is exactly why you hear so few concrete, names-attached stories of sexual harrassment and assault. I'm told there is a history of discrediting these because the "slut normalization" thing is top priority and these stories get inconveniently in the way of spreading this ideology. I got roped into attending last year's Saturday Slutcon party because so many local and out-of-town friends were there (to echo sentiments @tautologer expressed about "slut events becoming central to the larger scenes). Mostly I hung out with people I knew and that was great. But in the course of my 3-ish hours there, there were 2 times my "no" was not accepted by a man I didn't know, and I was physically pushing a huge guy off of me who was rubbing his penis on me, who continued to do it despite my physical force against him, and after I finally wriggled away from him, told him I wanted to dance alone etc., he came back and did it again. This was scary and bad, but it didn't even cross my mind to report this because one of the other people who didn't accept my "no" earlier in the night was the bartender (an officially sanctioned authority at the event), and I knew the event was organized exclusively by women into CNC (who are vocal about how rapey behavior turns them on), so I figured this sort of thing would just get me laughed at. And anyway, I heard there were a lot of other incidents like it. Later though, someone encouraged me to report this story to the organizers, and despite my embarrassment I did, so *they know* that this and other incidents happened. This is why they cut the Saturday night party this year and created a larger training program for the flirt girls - *because* of things like this last year. Yet the narrative bein…

I think its important to understand the campus sexual assault crisis is way worse than you think. universities suspend just 1/12,400 students each year for sexual misconduct & expel 1/22,900. once you read title ix administrators in their own words, you get a sense why that is:

Much of job interview discourse comes down to the fact that for positions with a pile of candidates who aren't different in ways that matter, what we should do is draw names out of a hat, but they won't let us do that. Force people to invent reasons in the absence of meaningful ones and...welp.

ICE cannot do what it’s doing without local law enforcement. They need their manpower and infrastructure. That means if you want to stop ICE you are going to have to confront police collaboration and police power. I’m sorry but progressive hopes of avoiding this conflict are a recipe for failure.

The Connecticut Sun's final game is tonight. Connecticut and its fans bought into the WNBA at its low point, turning a profit when the NBA's owners saw the league as a moneypit, only to lose their team now that everyone sees big bucks in women's sports. Some thoughts on the setting of the Sun:

Surprisingly, moving the team to Connecticut worked. In 2010, the Sun became the first WNBA team to turn a profit — during a global recession, and during the league’s nadir of popularity. The casino in the middle of nowhere became a fortress. The Sun has won 64.5 percent of its home games. It developed a real fanbase and made four WNBA Finals. The Connecticut Sun is not the first WNBA team to die. (Enjoy this haunting image of the mascots for the Sacramento Monarchs, Utah Starzz, Detroit Shock, and yes, the Houston Comets, hanging out, smiling, not realizing that death will soon come for them.) But it’s the first WNBA team to die for this reason: Not because nobody cared, not because it couldn’t make money, not because it couldn’t find fans or win games, not because the league is shrinking … but actually because the league is growing. The Sun helped the WNBA survive, but the period of mere survival is over. The league is moving on to bigger markets and bigger money and leaving Connecticut behind.

ProPublica has found multiple cases of women with underlying health conditions who died when they couldn’t access abortions. Tierra Walker, a 37-year-old mother, was told by doctors there was no emergency before preeclampsia killed her. (Published Nov. 2025)
