It should be a question for everyone, and it’s one that’s unanswerable right now. And that’s why the next two years generally (and the next few months leading up to the midterms specifically) are so important: a LOT more consolidation can happen if Ds don’t control one of the three branches.

Something I think that underlies a lot of debates within the Democratic party and center-left right now is whether or not you think Trumpism has been successful as a political and ideological project. (Not, obviously, whether it's been good or not).

My general sense right now is that it is most successful as an ideological project. It exploited media fragmentation, then accelerated it, and is closing in on capturing and institutionalizing the resulting chaos. Pretty successful capturing courts, if you consider that an ideological project too.

Two elections, three justices on the Court and so forth. But it has failed because it didn't consolidate power. It's purely their fault. Had they spent money and not tried to blow up the government they could've had 20-30 years. The sentiments and factions it harnessed still exist. Therefore -

15. As Paul Krugman said this morning: "So rather than trying to mollify the Democrats and defuse the coming political reckoning, the billionaire class is opening the money taps, going all out to prevent Democrats from being elected.

Judge Pained as He Grants Dismissal of Jan. 6 Charges Against Oath Keepers

The judge, Amit P. Mehta, blasted the administration’s request for a dismissal in the case, saying it bestowed “unearned grace” on the Oath Keepers defendants “by wiping their records clean.”

I wrote this essay Monday evening, in a state of agitation after watching Max Miller’s use his wife’s act of making him dinner as evidence that he couldn’t possibly have abused her. I published it this morning, and mere hours later it’s all gotten even more horrific. 1/ dot-connecting.ghost.io/on/

Believing survivors means understanding that survivors do many things to keep themselves safe — including cook dinner for their abusers.

These kinds of claims are weaponized against victims of abuse all the time, including in court. And they completely ignore how many women behave when under threat. Women are socialized from birth to preserve community ties, to protect and defend the family unit. Their survival often depends on it.
